Miele Rangehood (DA399-7) Wall Mount Help

Hi guys, I've had my new Meile DA399-7 range hood mounted but the electrician was in a rush & asked if I was OK with putting the hood cover & flue extension on. I said 'no problem' to something I thought was a no brainer but I, for the life of me, can't figure out how the flue extension attaches to the wall mount. It's turned out to be the hardest DIY project I've attempted yet.

Has anyone here ever mounted one of these & can tell me how the flue extension attaches to the mount (wing looking thing)?

Instructions (step I'm stuck on in red): https://imgur.com/TtJevKW

Thanks!

I put mine up years ago with my dad's help. The wall mount in your photo is the top wall mount just under the ceiling and there should be another piece you mount about 475mm under the top piece, once these two pieces are on the wall you can then slot the top flue into the wall mounts. Once the top one is in you just wrap the bottom piece around the top piece and tuck both side lips behind the top piece and gently slide it down till it sits on the rangehood. On your photo the bottom flue doesn't look like it's tucked in behind the top flue.

    • Thanks Jaeger! You're right, there is a second mount which sits lower down the flue. Do you recall it being difficult to attach the flue lips to the mounts? I can't see to get the flue side lips to attach & hold securely to the mount pieces. Once the top mount is attached to the wall, did you slide the flue up around the mount or did you attach it left side then right side and should any part of the mount be exposed? Thanks for your help though, knowing what I should/shouldn't do really helps narrow the solution.

OP perhaps amend title to Miele.

    • Done…thanks!

  • Looking at your photo again and it seems like the top flute is sitting outside the top wall mount. Did you mount the top wall mount just under the baulkhead? It looks like there's quite a gap between the top wall mount and the baulkhead.

The top notch on the top flue should slot in to the 'tooth' of the top wall mount:

Your photo looks like you squeezed the top flue to fit inside the the top wall mount, is that right? If that's the case and referring to the photos below, did you bend the part B as I can't see it sitting outside the flue.

    • Can't thank you enough, your photos & instructions gave me enough to figure it out, I totally missed the mark on this one. Here's a photo of the final installation: https://imgur.com/a/88632

A few things we did wrong & your assumptions were correct:
      1. The top wall mount wasn't installed perfectly below the baulkhead
      2. Initial forceful attempts to attach the extension flue to the top mount bent the mount 'tooth' & flue notches so they weren't holding properly (because of this the instructions didn't work for us)
      3. The flue was squeezed to fit inside the top mount & part B was bent in

Knowing how it was meant to fit together, we bent things back to shape & it all just 'clicked' together. Thanks again!

  • Glad it all worked out for you.
