DOA Pixel Device with DWI

I purchased a Google Pixel from the DWI website a few weeks and just received it yesterday! When I unboxed it and tried to open it, the screen was black and it did not show any signs of life. I have tried charging it for the past 5 hours, but still no luck!

The dodgy thing is that DWI have a 14 day return policy for DOA devices FROM INVOICE DATE, and guess how long delivery and processing took… MORE THAN 14 days!

I did a big mistake of buying using my debit card rather than Paypal and I am not sure what I should do from here on.

Thank you!

  • Remember your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, you should be given 30 days. Not sure about this if it's not AU stock

Try and claim warranty - they have 12 months.

Q: Do you have offices or warehouse in Australia? I see the numbers for different states.
A: No, there is no offices/or warehouse in Australia. We are an overseas business. The numbers on the website are the call centre numbers and your calls get transferred to Hong Kong at a local call rate.

      • Being incorporated overseas doesn't get you out of Australian Consumer Law (see ACCC v Valve) - however it becomes an issue of how to get the matter enforced. In this case, it may be impossible.

Just ask for a refund, if they refuse since you received an item not as described as it was DOA, do a charge back on your credit card. DWI has to prove they sent you a working item, and since they cant you will get a refund.

Have you contacted them about it yet?

I bought a Pixel from an overseas eBay shop a little while back and it was also almost-DOA - it powered on but simply would not recharge the battery when plugged in. Downloaded some battery monitoring apps and found that the phone's temperature sensor was constantly reporting OVERHEAT, thus the phone was refusing to charge the battery for safety reasons (though it would still run when plugged into mains). Maybe you have a similar issue - I was just fortunate enough to receive the phone with 70% charge which was enough to diagnose the issue.

Anyway the shop I bought it from was pretty good about it - gave me a pre-paid label, I sent the phone back and they ended up just giving me a refund. Might have dodged a bullet actually considering there's a current class action lawsuit over the Pixel's hardware flaws.

    • I'm surprised this isn't a little higher up. A little communication goes a long way.
