Anyone with experience using portable projectors? Conceptually this is amazing

    • This one is good, but the battery can only last for 2 hours.
      Another good choice is https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076Q3GBJK/ref=psdc_300334_t1_B01L….
Nebula can install Android Apps and have built-in speaker, but it's resolution is 854*480.

    • I bought one for a friend and played with it a bit. If you don't mind the relatively low brightness it's alright. It doesn't need to be focused which makes it really easy to set up.

I personally can't use it though, as the laser flicker is very very noticeable to me on bright screens.

      • Could this be an issue with your friend unit? Otherwise flickering would be a serious design flaw?

        • +1

Nope, I first saw the flicker when I saw the unit in person in a store when I went there to buy it. I saw the flicker and decided not to buy it.

My friend wanted it anyway so I ordered one, and it also had the flicker.

Not everyone can see the flicker though, so it might be perfectly fine for you.

        • @eug:

Yep, my daughter can see flicker from data projectors but I can’t.

Don’t know the reason but some do and some don’t.

    • I've got a few aaxa projectors and Chinese off brands. With the battery operated ones, the colors are always going to be off. Either too blue or red skin tones.

Used it mainly to project to the ceiling. Made watching really easy when trying to sleep. Brought it to a few overseas trips and over ight stays. Paired with a powerbank and hdmi from my phone.

  • Would this project to ceiling?

    • +4

yes..it's perfect for watching movies on bed..

  • It's 32 lumens if you're wondering about the brightness.

Typically you want above 2000 for daylight viewing, with darker areas letting you get away with lower lumens.

Typically you want above 2000 for daylight viewing

It's probably also worth mentioning that our eyes are logarithmic, so 32 vs 2000 doesn't mean the 2000 lumen projector is 62 times brighter.

This pico projector is designed for smaller projected sizes too - the example given is 42". If you displayed a 42" screen with a a 2000 lumen projector, it'd be a little too bright unless you were in a bright room.

with darker areas letting you get away with lower lumens.

That's why this projector provides a pretty acceptable image. It's not meant for whatever situation you'd use a 2,000 lumen projector in. It's meant for situations where it's impractical to carry a 2000 lumen projector, e.g. watching movies in bed projected to the ceiling when you're on holiday, or for an easy-setup movie session for the kids, or a simple presentation for a small group of people in a room that you can darken.

  • 1920 x 720 HD resolution,that’s an unusual resolution.

    not 1920x1080… No Deal

    • I doubt you will find a Full HD projector in that price range for some time yet. Very happy to be proved wrong.

      • Wld love a 4k… but price and size, but the native resolution crap is BS

  • Not bright enough for anything work related

    • It works fine for stuff like powerpoint slides. Those slides should have points, not paragraphs, so they'd use larger fonts.

      • Not really. If your office has glass walls which has outside light leak into the room, you can’t see anything with this projector.

I use it in pitch dark condition to be able to see.

        • And if your office doesn't have glass walls, it works fine. Point being, saying it's not bright enough for anything work related is not true. It won't work everywhere, but it can work in many places.

        • @eug: may Be I wasn’t clear. I “have” this device and if you have any light source Illuminating the area you want to project (even one candle tea light from Dusk), it will impact the quality of the projection.

This thing isn’t worth the money. I only managed to use it for very limited occasions.

        • @goraygo:

What size image were you trying to project?

I "have" this device as well - I bought it for a friend at work. It was purchased for small presentations in darker rooms.

It works fine for what it was designed to do. It produces an acceptable ~40" image in a dim room. It does not have to be pitch black. The focus-free system makes it very quick to set up as it's always in focus.

This thing isn’t worth the money. I only managed to use it for very limited occasions.

I think you just had unrealistic expectations. Pico projectors cannot be used like normal projectors.
