Do Huawei / ZTE / other handsets send data to Chinese servers?

Would anyone buy a ZTE or Huawei or any other brand of mobile handset? I have read that they send user data back to Chinese servers.

      sell you chinese food. obviously.

To OP, yes they will send your data, the chinese kingdom will then send one of their spy to your house.

also, once your sim card is inserted, the chinese will activated invisible camera within the phone to track your moves.

So, always always put your phone is the box it comes from.

also beware, the microphone is on all the time, so dont say anything to incriminate yourself.

  • I remember reading a quote recently that its safer to buy a Chinese branded phone, because China would never sell your information to the US like others do XD. But honestly I wouldn't more for the fact that I'm not a huge fan of those types of phones, then the backend servers. For the most part I gave up a lot of that when I joined Facebook and Google.

Since this is such an old and highly publicised issue you can be sure that large phone companies know that suspicious data packets are being monitored.

Business people, people with enemies and people that break laws in their local jurisdiction might be more worried about potential backdoors, which could exist on any electronic device. The average person using popular websites, default settings and programs doesn't realise how exploitable they've always been.

Yes I would, and I own a huawei. What you heard is probably scare mongering from the American government. Think about it, they have a vested interest to lie about these things, and reality is its probably not true. Think about it yourself.

  • By law any Australian service provider must retain the following information about you for 2 years:

    1. Subscriber and other relevant service-level account information
    2. The source of a communication
    3. The destination of a communication
    4. The date, time and duration of a communication
    5. The communication type
    6. The location of communication equipment

…and you're worried about the Chinese government invading your privacy?

I would say that all major phone brands are hard coded to send back into to a government power. Be this the USA or China. This is either done in cooperation or via hacking the manufacturing process.

  • You can expect they do. The Chinese government has the most technologically advanced domestic spy network in the world, with a large global spying arm to supplement this. This is re-enforced by the overarching ideology of their president. Their private sector is structured to reflect the party line from an executive tier down.
