Yep, just process the purchase and then it should download when you next boot up your PS4. My main way of purchasing free content is through the Playstation App on my iPhone. Even if I don't get around to turning on my PS4 for a few days after, I've got the game to download whenever I want.

If he has plus, and turned on automatic downloads it should, if you login to store click on download queue under you name and it should show downloading.
Don't you need PlayStation Plus Membership to remotely download/update things while in standby? Or it used to be like that?
