[NSW] What ISP Are You Currently Using in Cabramatta/Fairfield Area?

Hi,

Looking to be on a new plan that has fast internet for a good price. I am currently on TPG and am 4km away from the closest exchange point. My download speed maxes at 1.08Mbps (equivalent to around 138kbps) share with my sister and parents.

I need feedback from the community on what ISP are you currently using in Cabramatta/Fairfield area and what speeds you are currently getting.

Thanks,
Rob

  • I was with TPG in the past. Terribly slow speeds - streaming videos on YouTube @ 360p.
Currently with Optus. Not the best either, but better - streaming videos on YouTube @ 720-1080p.

    Internet speed test:
    Download: 29mb/s
    Upload: 11.4mb/s

  • Its rarely the ISP thats the issue for adsl speed, can't do much about the line. Thats like blaming an ebay seller for an item sent being late

First replace your adsl filter with a telstra Adsl2 filter, I just got mine off ebay.
I had a adsl2 filter and tried replacing it with the numerous ones I had for some reason or another… most new, they made no change.

Of course check for noise on your line, if thats the case its a call to tpg, who will call telstra.

My speed dropped to 1mb too, I 'm 4.5km away from my exchange. They tried to claim 1mb is standard for that speed, which was BS since i've had 4mbs for over a decade.

learn/play with your modem settings, it doesnt have to be set to adsl2,

  • My Parents and Siblings live in Fairfield, NBN is mostly active from Cabramatta to Fairfield, unless you are stuck in the Cabramatta West or stuck waiting for the HFC upgrades

Previously on TPG at 3.5km with a line speed of 3.5mbps with SNR tweaks applied and a new phone line installed.

Then jumped on to Vividwireless/Optus Averaged at 9mbps until the NBN HFC was activated with MyRepublic

With the distance either wait it out as you can't change the exchange which is Carramar (Telstra Building near Hume Hwy and Horsley drive) or switch to Mobile Broadband and pay the $90 per month and buy a Vividwireless modem then once NBN is ready again get onto that
