Sales Ad without Examples of What Is on Sale?

I was wondering is it legit to have a sales advertisement without giving examples of what is on sale or how much is the sale? Basically simply saying big sales on, contact participating stores for details.

Well it wouldn't work here on ozbargain.

I often see deleted posts due no bargain listed in the title.

  • Not in the context of posting a deal, just an ad I came across, thought it’s a shady practice to advertise a sale without any specifics.

I may lodge a complaint, but want to make sure if it is actually acceptable.

Not particular sure how an advertisement saying "Big sale! See in store for details" is shady.
Some stores advertise "Up to 50% off prices!", when maybe only 1 item is actually 50% off, and the remaining items are 5% off.

Can you provide a specific example?

    • So so shady!
Complain to the ombudsman and start a class action lawsuit.

Saw a sign the other day that said:

    "Big Sail Sale"

    (Driving past a sailmaker) lol

  • Sell the sizzle, not the sausage, as they say…

The advertisement doesn't make any specific promises, so it would be difficult to get any sort of complaint to stick.
