Bought the cool MR16 a fortnight ago but they all flicker, unlike the other LED ones I have. I'm not using a dimmer or anything, any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Tried returning them since they didn't work properly for me, but didn't have the receipt. I showed them a video of them flickering and asked if they could scan my woolworths rewards card instead as proof of purchase but they claimed the system was down and sent me away, even though I had just bought some stuff 5 minutes prior and my woolworths card worked fine.

Did you have halogen lamps before? LED lamps do not work well with some of the 12V drivers used with old halogen lamps. You can either replace the drivers or use Gu10 lamps.

      • No, the current ones are LED, but they're not too bright and they're piss yellow.

Would Gu10 work in an MR16 slot?

        • GU10 are 240V and different socket to MR16 GU5.3 12V

    • Could be a transformer issue — I don’t have that problem with the Warm ones as a direct swap for old halogens, but am in a property which is only about 5 years old. I believe it is always a case of “suck it and see” with substituting LED globes on existing transformers…

      faulty

    • antique choke transformer meant for halogen will cause the flicker

the new electronic transformer either works or not lit at all

Thanks OP, I have been waiting for these to go on sale for some time.

However, for some reason I can’t buy the Mr16 Warm online in SA — after adding to my cart and choosing an SA location for pick up or delivery (and being required to log in) it says “Sorry, temporarily unavailable.”

Will probably head in-store later tonight to see if they are discounted on shelf…

    • Sometimes the website is a bit glitchy. That’s happened to me previously - check again later and see if it updates.

  • Are these suitable for fan lighting? Although i have to check the size if the globe fit.

    • +1

They are physically smaller than previous models, so should fit in a fan. Usually not recommended for enclosures, so you might see reduced life.

Got 7 packs of MR16 Warm at Bunnings Kent Town (SA) @ $15.75ea tonight. Only about 30sec of scrutiny of the Woolworths website on my iPhone by the cashier before agreeing to the Price Beat. Plenty in stock.

        • :( must be you that tipped bunnings off to match the warm at $17.40

anyway, i just picked up cool white at $15.75ea

  • +1

Don't forget Bunning's price beat before they match the price !
Applicable for the mr16 at least
edit: oops ^ beat me to it

  • 4000k is cool white ?

  • +4

Do I need new light bulbs? Nope. Did I get some? Yep.

  • i have mr16 halogen downlights in kitchen and loungeroom.. which led ones do you suggest i get

    • +1

I'd go for the mr16 ones

      • dont have to be a rocket scientist to know that answer…
maybe i shouldt think people know the obvios..
which ones are best suited.. warm or cool… and reason why ?

        • +1

          Warm White for Living area

Cool White for Kitchen, though some prefer 4000K everywhere.

    • If your transformers plug into outlets I would suggest getting some of the self contained LED downlights rather than retrofit bulbs.

  • Hi guys, I have a friend who needs B15 bulbs. Like these
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/luce-bella-5-5w-bc-led-warm-whit…

I can't seem to find these in the woolies…. am I stupid or they don't sell?

    Thanks.

  • shame its only 410 lumens each for GU10 Warm White.. need around 700lm each for my dining area sigh

    • Do you know any brand producing high lm and wide beam GU10?

      • +1

SAL and eStar but they are not durable i find..

  • I have globes in my room but don't know max watt / volt that can be fitted in. How can I find out max watt permitted in globe and will these be all right

    • If your existing lights are MR16, these will fit straight in. It's more dependant on your transformers if they work or not.

Thanks OP. Got an extra 10% off at Bunnings.

  • can these be controlled via apps?
looking for a base smart bulb

    • +1
