Thai Airways How to Get 'Preferential' Seating

On researching Thai Airways flights I see that a large chunk of forward economy seats are not available to select as they are 'Preferential' Seats.
(However it is nice to see that at least Thai do allow FREE seat selection)
But if I book within about 16 days of the flight, those 'Preferential' Seats are available for selection.
My questions: If I have already made a booking & seat selection, can I change my seat selection (via manage my booking) to one of those 'Preferential' Seats during this roughly 16 day period? Or upon online check-in?
Thanks

the answer is yes you can change your seat if those seats are available. you can change seats as many times as you like before checking in (and then again upon check in).

I have flown thai airways a lot and confirmed this works as recent as last month.

    • Thanks. I thought that this should be the case. However I had doubts because I looked at a flight for next week and most standard economy seats were allocated, but most 'Preferential' economy Seats were available to select.
Maybe a lot of people book - select - and forget, or are not hands-on and book through a travel agent.

      • maybe! hey without booking and paying, how are you viewing available seats? i just had a try but ended up at the payment page :(

When you get to your details page, don't bother to fill in. Just scroll down and left side bottom is a select seat picture that you click on.
