At least the Chinese carriers offer a return trip! :P

Hmmm…. $900 is too expensive for MAS. Can you do $100 from MEL?

Why the hate for MAS? Flew with them a few times and they seemed pretty good to me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them at all. I just think that's how much their ticket worths considering their history and reputation.

$100 is how much I am willing, as a potential customer, to pay for a return ticket from east coast to London on such an notorious airline.

So your life is valued at $800? I'm sold!

Why the hate? A couple of years ago, due to their bad financial status, they cancelled all flights from many cities with no notice. My partner and I arrived in Istanbul to find they no longer flew out of Turkey. Initially, their call centre in KL said they could not help. After 12 hours of calls to KL, they agreed to fly us out of Dubai back to Sydney if we could find our own way there. Hours and many calls later they agreed to fly us to Dubai via Emirates 24 hours later but no hotel provided in Dubai.
Back in Sydney, when I requested compensation their office said we'll pass it on to head office in KL. Many calls to KL got me nowhere. Fair Trading said since the airline was not based in Australia there was nothing they could do.
Full service airline? Hardly. LCC airline with paid-for luggage and meals.
I've stuck with Qantas and Virgin since.

Adelaide for the win. Or lose.

  • Yeah wouldnt fly that airline… such a poor reputation.

  • +1

It’s on the bottom end of full service airline! Just below Qantas. No I am not talking Safety!

  • No deal from Perth??, got no problem with Malaysia Airlines, no problem flying with them at all.

    • There are a few seats for $998 return, but availability is extremely limited

  • Just pack a parachute in your carry on luggage all good then.

    • A parachute isn't much use if the plane is crashing into the ocean a million miles from anywhere or exploding to pieces over Russia (yeah, OK, neighbor). Once is an accident, twice and they're on the DNF list. Forever.

  • I've flown with Malaysian many times "pre incidents" and they are very professional. Far better than Cathay IMHO.

Whilst I'm not a nervous flyer or superstitious in any way, I just can't help feel that I might (still) feel a bit unsettled inflight with MAS these days.
