Qantas Classic Rewards Alerts

Hi there just a quick one is there a way to easily get alerts when classic reward flights become available? For example noticed at the moment no premium economy or business seats for Osaka or Tokyo to Perth for September but am told it may pop up in the future

Cheers

Any tips on cheap one way tickets for the route?

    Yes, but only if you pay for the service on something like ExpertFlyer.

    How many points do you have? Are you will to fly via Sydney/Melbourne? Just to confirm - you want to fly one way or return? From Perth to Japan (so you reside in Perth)?

    • Hi yes one way from japan back to Perth, have around 150,000 points, prefer not to go through interstate

        Can you fly direct from anywhere in Japan to Perth? I didn't think so…. at least not on the Oneworld network. I just had a look and there are definitely premium economy and business flights available in September. For example flying via HK on Cathay business class. Or flying via Malaysia on JAL and Malaysian Air also in business class.

        • You are correct no direct flight, what dates are those? Classic rewards?

        • @Sasuk3: Yes to classic rewards. I am confident you could find good reward flights on most dates given it is still 5 months out and Cathay generally has good availability. What dates are you interested in? I will find a good combination close to your dates for you.

        • @pantsparty: hi pants! Thanks for that! Just need a one way flight from either Osaka or tokyo to Perth between 26 and 29 of September

          Had a look - found a couple of options:

          • on the 26th you can fly Qantas business class from Tokyo to Sydney and then business Sydney to Perth - 84,000 points + taxes;
          • On the 28th you can fly business class on Cathay from Hong Kong to Perth (CX171 - I can only see business class reward availability for this flight on the British Airways website - usually when this happens you can call Qantas and they will book this reward flight for you). There is a flight from Tokyo Haneda in the morning with business class availability to get you to Hong Kong (Cathay Dragon KA397) - this is available to book on the Qantas website.

          If I was you I would call Qantas and try to book the second option I presented - ask them to book the CX171 flight from HK to Perth. The Cathay flights are much more pleasant than flying the old Qantas plane to Sydney. This option would also be the shortest overall flight time plus you will get to enjoy lots of business class lounges in Hong Kong airport.

  • Most business class award seats for international flights are sold about 350 days prior to departure date. So, chances of getting one for September are slim. You can get a trial version of ExpertFlyer to play around with various dates to see how many seats are still available in business class. If the available seats are low, chances of them being released to the award pool would be non-existent.

  • Another service that lets you create alerts is https://awardnexus.com it works on a points system to run searches so you can buy a small packed if you're only monitoring 1 flight.
