New "Sandy Bridge" Gaming PC

Hey, I am planning on buying a Sandy Bridge CPU based gaming PC. Sandy Bridge is the new CPU's from Intel.

In understand that the parts come in stock on the 9th of January 2011.

However I have seen ads and costs slowly seeping into price lists, perhaps incorrect prices.

If anyone knows of any related bargain related to this please reply. I will update this post January 8th.

  • It might be a while before these hit aussie shores.
These don't get anounced until the 5/6th when CES starts and then they get released in the US and might be up to a month before we see any real stock in Australia. Not to mention they will be in extrememly low supply and costs will remain high, probably in the mid $300s for the lowest cpu. Also the motherboards will also be around the $300 mark.

I have neen told all stock related to Sandy Bridge will start being available January 9th, and on January 19th all stock will be available, including motherboards and other products related to Sandy Bridge.

      • Where did you get this?
In past experiences it has taken ages for new computer products to hit Australian shelves. Especially considering the 9th is only 4 days after the official announcement of the product.

I guess Intel is getting desperate to sell their stuff? America's in the craphole and the Aussies are doing great.

        • I guess my guestimates were wrong.

          Fluidtek has listed:
          Core i5 2300 - $249
          Core i5 2400 - $265
          Core i7 2600 - $399

Low end mobos start at $175 to $369 for the performance stuff. And the two middle ones floating around $200

Thing is, when Sandy Bridge comes out, the bargain will likely be for the processors they supersede. When you buy the latest you pay the premium, and it's unlikely that you'll see bargains for these new chips in January.

  • its too early to make any assumptions

Early adopters always have to pay a premium price. The true bargain hunter always lies in wait for his prey.

Wait, what are we talking about again?

The rest depends on AMD. If AMD doesn't come out with any good competitors for the Intel CPU's, then we'll all have to pay inflated prices for our intel chips.

    • Haha, that was the same point I was trying to make, you make us sound like vultures mate :)

    • The true bargain hunter always lies in wait for his prey.

      lol this.

      • But if you wait TOOOoooooo long, the prey may escape.

  • The Reviews are in:

Looks like i7 2600k is able to clock to 4.8Ghz easy, and costs $420. Still need confirmations about that and motherboard etc.

    • My core i5 is clocked at 4ghz, so if I'm going to upgrade I'm going to have to be confident I can get a high clock or it won't be worth it, very annoying :(

You need to remember that sandy bridge is 17-23% faster per Ghz. 4Ghz on your core i5 is not equal to 4ghz on sandy bridge.
