Option to Donate Cooked Food in South East Melbourne Suburbs

I'm just enquiring if there is a way to donate cooked food to needy folks particularly within South East Melbourne Suburbs. I belong to a community whereby during our event gatherings, meals are prepared according to Jainsim Principles (vegetarian with no root vegetables and prepared fresh on that day itself). There are times when we end up with extra food after these functions and we have often looked at options to donate the food to people in need, particularly in & around the Moorabbin area.

We used to have a person who came to collect the food and distribute it to known under privileged people and that was a very noble act from that person. Unfortunately, he is no longer available and we are looking to find some options to provide the food to needy people rather than let it go to waste.

Would appreciate if anyone can suggest options or even let us know of any groups of needy people around Moorabbin surrounding suburbs that we can donate any extra meals prepared. It will certainly make us happy that we could help someone in need and know that the food isn't being wasted.

Regards,
Nish

    Perhaps OzHarvest?

  • If no one on here can help, try contacting the guy who run Humans in Melbourne (on Facebook). He'll either know someone or can put up a post for you.

Vegetarians need a root sometimes too

  • People have issues with rooted veggies now?

  • I would love to know what the negative about a vegetable plant having a root system is ?

Define needy? I'm sure if you put a post on gumtree or fb a poor student would take up your offer.

  • Google "food not bombs" for your local chapter.
