High Capacity Ultrabook + Durable

I'm looking for a new laptop, and I have a few requirements I'm really struggling to find anything that meets (at any price).

  • Less than 1.5kg
  • 1TB SSD (not RAID0 or the weird microsoft split drive or SSD + HD)
  • Well built
  • High-density screen
  • 16GB RAM or more

Would really really like, but could live without:

  • USB-C Thunderbolt 3
  • SD Card Reader (PCIe not USB 2)
  • Stylus

Candidates I've Found:

  • Surface Book 2 13.5"

Would fit the bill, but it's just over my weight limit (and that USB-C port isn't thunderbolt). It's also $4.5k which seems crazy, right?

  • MacBook Pro 13" non-touch-bar

Which comes in just under $3.5k.

Does anyone know of anything else? Dell, HP etc seem to only make 1TB laptops that weigh 2.5kg+.

      Thanks very much!

Does anyone sell the LG Gram in AU? The HP looks decent too.

      • The LG Gram just got announced last month I believe. I assume it'll get released to Australia in due time.

Save yourself $1,200 and get the pro with 128gb

    get an external HDD

Why would you need that my internal storage?

Just got the MBPro 13 really like it great value.

    • Video and photos that I need to edit. I’m pushing the limit on the 500GB I have now.

      • Maybe get a cheap laptop with a good screen and a punchy nuc and remote desktop to it?

        • Since I don't always have great network connection (slow or low data) I'd be better off with a portable drive rather than network.

I do have a NAS for extra storage but, uh, I'm running out of space on that too. I need to get more disks for it.

        • Oh, nice. I like how small and light it is. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks @ashrodan!

  • Easy… Get the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro.. Costs just over $1000 and it has another slot for you to add another SDD up to 1TB (for approx $400) to expand on the space. Save yourself $2k.

    • It weighs 1.9kg and the screen is only 1080p, no thanks.

Interesting idea though, didn't know modern laptops often came with a slot.
