Best Dual SIM Phone for Using as a GPS Wrt Cooling

I have a dual sim Xiaomi Note 3 which works very well at but gets very hot. We had to change the battery because the last one was swelling before i started using this as a GPS.

My other phone is Asus Zenfone Max Z010D which remains very cool in similar situations. But the second sim is only 2G and the GPS fails to work from some time now.

The other option is to hold the phone over an AC vent but it is slightly awkward in my car. It would take it out of my direct sight.

What are your recommendations to use as a cooler running GPS?

EDIT:
I do know that the dedicated GPS devices are more sturdy but I am looking only for a mobile based suggestion now. And that too below 250 AUD and with DUAL sim.

EDIT2:
I bought a ZTE Boost 4" Zume 5 Mobile Phone $29 @ Coles https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371113.
I am still waiting for it to get unlocked but as per the initial tests, the GPS lock is super fast and screen very cool.

LOL, Im waiting for that, I don't get it, why ppl think their phone is great for GPS.
        - phone get overheated, kill battery life
        - lane marking no why near as good as proper gps

Its not dinasour tech, its design for one sole purpose.

GPS devices are like 150 AUD. And a phone ties everything so much better.

    • Updated the question to remove GPS based answers. Thanks!!!

i'll get neg but … ol' skool standalone garmin/tomtom gps unit

my tomtom is still working after 9 yrs baking in sun

    • Agree completely, I my Garmin GPS side by side to phone (Galaxy S9) and the phone always seems to overheat and shut down. Garmin never shuts down with heat, even when I did the Gibb River Road a couple of years ago!

Over multiple phones, I've observed that the ones that had higher end processors (Snapdragon 8xx series) tend to heat up under GPS use, whereas my past two Snapdragon 625 phones barely get warm under the same conditions. It might be the same case for you - your Xiaomi Note 3 uses a Snapdragon 660 (higher end 6xx part) whereas your Zenfone has a much cooler Snapdragon 410.

If you're not focused on getting the highest specs, perhaps looking for a phone based on Snapdragon 625/635 or below would work for you. Plenty of phones use the 625 chipset, including the OzB favorite Motorola G5 Plus.

    • Even I feel that if a device shows just the basic images with only few updates per second then it may use less energy etc.

  • Is it just getting hot when using GPS or is it running hot when you're actually just charging the device?

    • I am not charging it when using it as a GPS because I am afraid that it may explode in my face if the phone does not have any sensors.
