How Do You Pay for Online Purchases from Overseas?

Hi all,

Just wondering if you purchase something online from overseas retailers, e.g. Banggood, Zapals, etc., where the currency is USD by default, how do you pay for them?
Do you pay using your credit card directly or via Paypal, but make sure that you use the credit card which won't charge you foreign transaction/conversion fee, e.g. 28 Degrees?

If you pay via Paypal but using credit card which has foreign transaction fee, but in Paypal, you choose AUD (i.e. Paypal do the conversion), will I get stung by the foreign transaction fee still?

Also, online retailers like The Iconic, ASOS, etc., where they are overseas retailer brands but they have Australian website with AUD as default currency, will you get stung by foreign transaction fee if you use credit card with the fee to pay for your purchases?

Just bit confusing how they all work.

  • Coles mastercard

    • no foreign fee?

      • Nup
6 months merchandise protection (insurance), and 24 months price protection too.

I believe some Entitlements have recently changed for new customers

        • 24 months price protection?! wow! so if the product drops in price within 24 months, they're going to refund you the difference. Do I get that right??

Phones, roof racks, car jacks, head lights.
Got a smashed note 8 paid out using price protection too.
I don't know if new customers get it.

  • ANZ Travel Rewards card. I find the rates very similar to what you can google at the time.

  • VIA PAYPAL VIA PAYPAL you have insurance that you will be able to claim if you get ripped off or the item gets lost in the mail etc

    ING

  • 28 Degrees card - pay in the foreign currency.

  • ING no longer charge a 2.5% fee for transactions in a foreign currency, but what is their conversion rate based on? I mean paypal doesn't have a fee but their rates are terrible.
