Cheapest Way to Send and Receive SMS While Overseas? Android.

We are heading to NZ for 2 weeks and I wanted to be able to still receive and send SMS from my phone number.

I’ve got one thought that may work but maybe there’s easier ways?

I use Pulse SMS which allows me to send and receive SMS via a web page.
My understanding is the app on my phone sends all the data to the online server meaning my phone number still needs to be active in a phone with the app.

So if I leave my SIM in an old phone with the Pulse SMS app at home on charge I should be able to send and receive SMS from the web page on my IPad?

    • Can I send and receive SMS from whatsapp to People that don’t use Whatsapp?

Just tell the other person to download what’s app - it’s free. Otherwise buy a cheap NZ SIM card.

I’m wanting access to all SMS so it’s not really practical to have everyone download whatsapp.

I’m guessing my idea with Pulse SMS is the most likely to meet my needs?

        • @dan76n: You'll want something like that, yeah.
In the past, I had VNC Server installed on my smartphone and just left it here in AU, then connected to it 1x / day while on holiday.
These days, I just go with not worrying about shit back here, and enjoy the holiday. Get important people to contact you via email if they need to (everyone has email).

As Marcsie said Whatsapp is he best I have used it since 2012 before it even became popular. Viber, IMO, Allo, wechat etc are alternatives.. There are plenty. You just need a wifi or an mobile internet that’s it. Happy travels!

  • don't leave a phone on charge as you suggested :/

  • Receiving SMS overseas is free, only sending costs.

But, while sends SMS anymore? Other than receiving OTPs
