It Is Not a Complain but I Have to Say Optus Roaming Is So Backward

I went to holiday to New Zealand 4 days 3 nights in Easter and activate my Optus international roaming. My holiday in New Zealand is fantastic. The only thing let me down is expensive Optus roaming fee.

It is not a complain but I have to say Optus roaming is so backward. It is 2018 now and I do not believe 1MB data cost 1 to 2 dollars and 1 minutes call cost 1.5 to 4 dollars. Even sending a message cost me 0.5 to 1.5 dollars.

In those 4 days, I just sent around 50 messages and a short video in wechat. I did not send any taxt message and make any phone call. My phone bill is over $200

I only want to say it is so backward!!!!!

$10 a day sounds reasonable for unlimited calls and texts and 100MB of data per day.

Or….did you not buy the travel add on before going and you therefore paid the penalty.

You should have done research before you left. You could have taken out a Vodafone plan and paid $5/day roaming and used your allowance of data and unlimited calls. Would have cost you $20.

    • Fun strat with this: Cancel before the end of the month and you don't get charged access fees - only pay roaming fees.

Creates an account for "non complaint".

TLDR: I'm complaining that I didn't read my T&Cs and now have a big phone bill to pay.

I'm confused at what part of your brain thinks this is not a complaint?

Yes those charges are ridiculous - I will agree. But you should have known the prices before you left. There is nobody to blame but yourself. Get an international sim next time or just don't use a phone - it was 4 days did you really need to use your phone that much?

In 2018 it's just naive to not understand the overseas roaming fees with mobile phones.

    It's not a complain but it's a complaint.
