i didnt upgrade the firmware and have tried using an older mi home app version

anyone know if this is permanent or if there is a workaround?

Thanks

  • Yes, same thing happened to me a while ago. Can't download the videos or watch live. Live stream runs for a second or two then pauses. Frustrating as they are pretty useless now. Surely there is a workaround?

  • what about fanghacks

    • i have fanghacks working on 3 cameras, so i can stream it to a local android box and monitor when im at home

i prefer the mi app when out and about as its hooked to rest of automation but i cant access the feeds anymore

i also cant figure out how to get recording working using fanghacks and tinycam

  • similar problem but interesting the dafang cameras are fine

    • and they're all working again
      *shrug

    • my dafang wont connect anymore

spent an hr rebooting it and trying to connect but it keeps failing

i think its "saving" an incorrect password to wifi even if i manually override it

i tried to hotspot my phone but no luck

  • its because you are not in china, they only work in china.
mine stream live only, they dont even save to the micro SD card anymore.

    • i cant get it to stream live either

my suggestion is don't buy xiaomi products. Xiaomi is a Chinese company design (appearance) product and marketing.
All their products are manufactured by many factories who offer cheapest assembly cost to them. Xiaomi products are good looking, cheap and with massive marketing around the world. But their products don't really last long past warranty. think before you buy.

    • what should we buy then?

Poor quality isn't the issue here, it's the geolocking via OTA firmware updates that's the problem. Xiaomi (or some overseas patent holder) really doesn't want people outside China using their IP cameras. This means that you should not use the Mi Home app with these cameras, instead you need to use fanghacks and get the RTSP stream instead. Also know that geolocked firmware is now installed inside all the current production Xiaofang cameras, but AFAIK not the bigger Dafang cameras (yet).

The alternatives are to either go to a local retailer get something like a Nest camera for 10x the price, or get one of the random branded cameras on AliExpress/Ebay, or get a cheap Android phone and use that as a camera.

      • Yi Technology aka Xiaoyi are decent for cameras. Unknown to most people, Yi Technology have never been a Xiaomi company. They just received funding to build a few cameras then ended the partnership to do their own thing.

We should all stop buying Samsung and also Hyundai and Kia then.
And please, xiaomi doesnt have massive marketing around the world (massive in ozbargain world yes).
My point of view is I will buy any products that offer good value, simple as that and lots of xiaomi products fall in that category. I dont even expect any warranty on xiaomi products because of where I get them from (mostly ch websites).

      • Samsung, Hyundai and Kia have local support and are sold via official distribution channels and therefore need to comply with ACL which includes after sales support.

Big difference to some cheap Chinese crap

Dumb post. Lots of high quality and low quality electronics are made in China. This is a software related problem in a camera which is designed and marketed only for the Chinese market. The manufacture quality is irrelevant and from my experience is actually quite high. I would disagree that all their products have "massive marketing around the world", it's mostly China and India at present. You're post is idiotic.

I never say product made in China are bad or representing low quality. The point I am trying to make is that this company Xiaomi is design idea creator, they are great at making great design good looking products at affordable price. But from the product technical and engineering maturity know-how point of view, they can't compete with brand such as Panasonic, Samsung…etc these well known brands. You can google some reviews about Xiaomi product in Chinese market, many of their products become junk after one year purchase.

Also talking about local support, Xiaomi is using massive e-commerce channels around the worlds to sell their product, but do you see a single Xiaomi local support facility or representative at country for example Australia, a branch who responsible of product quality and safety at our local level that regulated by ACCC and pay tax here for products they sold to Australian?

        Think again.

Xiaomi have been tolerating all of the foreign traffic going through their servers, but thanks to the XiaoFang being one of the most popular devices… they decided to block traffic outside of China. One of the many reasons was the amount of bandwidth and resources used by the massive network of cameras. Fortunately the Dafang hasn't reached the same amount of success and is actually manufactured by a different company.

As phunkydude said, fanghacks is really your only solution for the XiaoFang.

    • i have fanghacks installed but i have 1 camera i want to use via the cloud. tinycampro is really unreliable
the feed cuts off, i cant get recording working properly and cloud streaming is unreliable too

i also cant get my dafang connecting to my wifi anymore

Do I understand it correctly that people are complaining that their personal IP cameras are no longer routed via China?

I had same problem before . Just uninstall that APP and reinstall .
Since that time my Xiaomi Xiafang working till now . Only some time you need login again when u r out door.

    • This seems the case. Also sometimes I find I have to restart the software.

At present both Xiafang and Dafang cameras working with Mihome and software/firmware updates

Although I ahvent tested access from outside the home.

I cant download the videos but can watch the recorded videos via the app. If I want the original file I find I have to remove memry card and copy via my computer.

      • I wonder what's causing the problem for when downloading recorded videos, that's one of the most important function isn't it?

    • i have tried this

      cleared cache, cleared data
      uninstalled app

      installed the 4.0.11 version

i noticed that even though its the old app, after i sign in, some features look "new"

cameras get listed and open but i cant view the stream

my dafang also keeps timing out after i reset it. wont set up
