  • wow, seems pretty good on paper…but I know nothing about these, apart from hearing what friends have paid (i.e. a lot more than this) for different brand, similar specs.

    • I have Harman Kardon AVR 151 and if HDMI cables don't fit tightly I get Drop Out's of Video and Sound.
Picture skew's to the right when the video changes on my 37" Viewsonic.

Tech Support responded promptly ;) I found the issue in the end….Better fitting HDMI CABLES !!!

For $100 more I'm almost certain the previous DENON deal is a steal

Comparable models at the time, but this is 4 generations older. As such, technology has progressed since then so you're better off with the newer in a receiver.

    • denon has more hdmi inputs and between plugging in apple tv, android tv box, xbox, ps4, they do start to fill up.

  • Hi odysseus are you saying the Harman Kardon is using newer tech…?

  • I have one of these and previously had 4 Pioneer VSX models that all died in various ways. The HK is decent, less options and settings but it works reliably. I flashed the US firmware as it was a lot newer than the AU firmware which stopped being updated in 2015 or something.

    • thanks for the tip, I didn't think to try that.

  • Hmm not much in the way of specs on the Amazon site.
Almost all new receivers feature Dolby Atmos support - but if you don't plan on fitting speakers to your ceiling (or upwards firing speakers to bounce off the ceiling) or don't watch many movies then may not be an issue.

  • Also actually using this isnt very user friendly.

Onboard software is ultra basic like the pioneer interface

The remote looks like its from 1990's

And if you lose the remote or try and operate the buttons on the unit its a nightmare.

    • Agree Totally…with Harman Kardon AVR 151 TOTAL FAIL'S:

Who would think to have NAMES for HDMI Input sources (Server, Cable/Sat, Stb, Game…etc)….
      HDMI connector's are SHI…BAD !!!
      Button's and Label's on device INVISIBLE…lol
Speaker cable connection's too small for standard Bannana Plug's…mmmm
Android app not very good…Yamaha has hdml (Internet Page) interface and App is GREAT

I use Logitech Elite remote and work's great…Most of the time ;)

  • decent unit and uniquely low profile. most are much chunkier. it does the job and is almost a dumb unit for my usage. i'm using ARC/HDMI-CEC from the TV and hardly touch the remote. if you have a Samsung TV be cautious if you want to use ARC, Samsung have the worst implementation.

  • OLD and NOT 4K
