Cheapest Way to Cash in JB Hi-Fi Vouchers

Hey guys, I’ve received over $5k in online gift-cards from JB Hi-Fi. I would prefer cash and am looking for the cheapest way to cash them in.

I am thinking I might be able to loiter in the store and offer to pay for someones TV with the cards in exchange for cash/bank transfer but not too sure how kindly the staff will look upon me for that.

If anyone has any ideas I’d be very keen to hear – I am assuming that I’d be losing at least 10% to try sell the vouchers outright, so hopefully I can save some money.

Thanks!

Lol that doesn’t sound dodgy at all

    • Yeah can see why you'd think that. It is from an insurance payout - even though I replaced the items they insisted on vouchers and my only option to complain about it is a 6 month wait escalating it to an ombudsman

Sell it on Gumtree but make sure you post the items first without receiving the cash!

Seriously though, agree with the above; sounds dodgy and you could get caught out with the customer doing a runner and not transferring you the cash.

Maybe you have a family or friend who is thinking of buying a TV or similar that you could ask?

Make sure you sell them and the buyer sends you a text that they have bank deposited you the money, you send them straight after, without checking your bank account.

Just buy a 5000 dollar TV and be done with it.

Buy things that resell for not much depreciation? Macs, Iphones, headphones?

Not meant nasty but worst idea ever (hassle, potential issues, postage/pickup PITA) but mainly capital loss, you'd easily even on a brand new unopened any one of those lose minimum 15% of what was paid - and they'll want the invoice so no getting away with one even if you buy at a great price.

Worth a shot going instore and asking folks who look close to a deal - give them 5% off face value and you pay upfront - or atleast say you can go to staff together and verify they're 100% legit.

Path of least resistance - sell for 10% off face value on here etc.

    I would prefer cash

    Well thats too bad

be able to loiter in the store and offer to pay for someones TV with the cards in exchange for cash/bank transfer

    hahahaha

Mate, If I was buying them, I would be wanting a way bigger discount than 10%….. Try 25-30% at least.

I've transferred $4,500 into your account. Please forward me the gift cards.

    • Nah uh OP, don’t listen to this guy.
I just EFT you $10,000 - it’s 2x your voucher value, you can send it to me now.

I would get friends or family who wants to but a new laptop and work out a deal with them. wait till JB do is a 10-15% off then give them an another 10-15% off.

    • Definitely this, strangers and gift cards don't mix well

I had $1350 in vouchers, Bought a Google XL 128gb on weekly jbhifi special for $1299 sold it for $1350 after the sale finished. Had it for about a week.

  • save it for when a new phone in demand comes out, probably easily resell it for 10% less
