Hi ozbargainers!

We have been looking for a new neato for a while. But the price has not dropped since Feb last year (cheapest deal - almost half price for Botvac Connected).

Found D5 on Amazon, it has a newer edition D7, I think that's why it is discounted. RRP USD$599.

This should explain the differences between BotVac Connected and BotVac D5.

  • Why not pay half get a Xiaomi which performance is on par.

I refuse to conform to President Mao's tyranny!!

Just kidding. I like how Neato's brush extends all the way to the side, while XiaoMi's brush is in between the wheels. But ultimately, it's my preference. I thought it's a good deal for people who is specifically looking for a Neato.

  • Neato is the better version of the Xiaomi. If you want quality than get neato

  • Love the apps with these new robot vacuum. Find it annoying having magnetic strips to stop the robot going into certain places and getting stuck.

I have owned my Neato Botvac 80 for 4 years and it's still going strong. Almost fill it daily with dog hair…

Will wait for this one to die before upgrading to a connected version.

Can highly recommend Neato's customer service too. Had a problem with my bumper sensor in the first year, US eBay seller didn't help. Contacted Neato directly and they sent me a replacement unit, just needed to pay $40 shipping!

    • That's why I want a D7. Persistent maps means I can draw virtual walls in the app to keep it out of the troublesome areas where mag strips aren't practical.

      • Like you now can with the Xiaomi. Definitely a super useful feature

        • I didn't know the Xiaomi can store the map. Or do you need to define the virtual wall each time?

        • @bamzero: Mine didn't originally, but now after an update it stores the map and I can save zones for it to clean. Can't do "exclusion zones" that I've found yet

  • These are bloody awesome , and made in the USA. I have my old one upstairs, still as strong as day one.
Not sure the Xiaomi would last this many years of hard work. And these sound like a little Jet when they start up, not just brushes with a little sucking on the side, these are designed very well, lasers are awesome , esp considering the technology in those days.

  • My Super Nintendo Neato that I purchased in 2013 is still going strong. I’ve replaced the batteries maybe, 4 times?

Also had to do some maintenance on the motherboard once and the screen is now blank, but still works! It gets used at least twice a week.

  • I have both D80 and Xiaomi Gen 2 and hardwood throughout the house.

After using the Xiaomi Gen 2 for two weeks, i find the D80 collects more dusts, there is more things in the bins at the end of the clean compared to Xiaomi Gen2.

The Gen 2 however mops the house this makes the floor feel cleaner than the D80. You have to change the mop pad every 20min or so and the water lasts longer than 50min which is more than enough to clean a 2 bedroom apartment. Maybe if you run the gen 2 more frequently then you dont' have to change the mop pads.

Not sure about reliability, but my XV21 neato died sucking up some water. The D80 is pretty strong after 2 years.

I had XV21 before. Upgraded to D80. And was disappointed.
I am using the same the most expensive pet brush on both models.
It looks like in order to get "more out of the single charge" they increased the speed. So D80 runs faster.
    As a result I see:
    1. D80 is collecting less fine dust and leaving some crumbs behind
    2. D80 from time to time runs over magnetic barrier
    3. D80 getting stuck in places where XV21 was stopping and backing off
Also D80 color LCD is crap and started dying already - I got few lines of dead pixels already
