Fasttech Charging Extra $50 for Shipping?

Hey all,

Has anyone had Fasttech charge extra for shipping after you have made a purchase?

I bought a whole heap of stuff from Fasttech a couple of weeks ago and today I got an email saying the package failed security check and I need to pay extra to ship it in 2 packages.
I already paid $102USD for Australian expedited shipping! (had a couple of heavy items in it.) the only thing that would have a battery is the Mi Band 2. It does have a lithium battery case in it though, but no batteries.

Here is the email they sent me. Anyone have any ideas what I should do?

Thanks for your help!

We got the feedback from the shipping agency that your package failed to pass the security checking as it has much more strictly checking and it will be returned to us.

Here are some suggestions for your reference.

  1. ship it via Australia Expedited Air but in 2 shipments, the extra shipping fee USD$50.

Please kindly note that Australia Expedited Air has size limitation and it can't be shipped in one package.

  1. ship it via DHL in one package, but the extra shipping fee is USD$108.

Yeah ask for a refund and buy elsewhere.

  • If you buy whatever you've ordered somewhere else, is the total price going to be less than what you've already paid, plus the additional US$50?

Even if you get a refund and order it from another international retailer for the same price, there's no guarantees that the same thing won't happen.

    • True but if he does multiple transactions that complicates things if he needs to do a PayPal claim later. If he is happy to buy from these people he should ask them to refund then send an invoice for the full amount including the extra shipping, and pay again.

      • Does PayPal refund the shipping costs too? (I've luckily never had to go through the process so I don't know).

It makes good business sense that the retailer should actually absorb the additional $50 postage costs.

If OP was to get a refund and PayPal refunded the whole amount including shipping, the retailer at a minimum loses the sale (including the profit margin on the products) and the amount that's already been paid for shipping the first time. Surely all this is worth more than the $50 they're asking for now.

They quoted the shipping cost and OP made his final purchase decision based on the prices they quoted. Doesn't make sense to piss off a customer (and potentially the people they know) for $50.

        • Yes PayPal will refund the whole amount, as long as it is one transaction. Either with the seller doing it on purpose (if OP doesn't want it anymore or to reissue the invoice) or if a successful claim is made for whatever reason.

  • It was a decent price but it now brings the price to about the same as me ordering from somewhere closer. The ozbargainer in me doesn't want to accept I could have gotten it quicker at the same price!

I have asked for a refund to see what they say, just in case they don't refund shipping fees. I have also asked what it is that is stopping it too. Sounds strange that it would get through if I sent it via the same carrier (Australian Expedited Air) but in 2 smaller packages.

    Thanks for the replies!

    • If they refund less than what you paid, raise a dispute for item not received. You'll get the rest back.

      • Nice cheers, I thought the paypal protection only worked for eBay for some reason!

  • Just did some calculating and I saved about A$60 buying through Fasttech. This extra shipping will make it A$5 more expensive than buying elsewhere using AUD, and probably without the wait. I can't refund now knowing that I could have got it cheaper and sooner, lol!

    • The original saving was only AUD$60? lol!

      • Yeah, that was just my savings though. 3 of us ordered together and we saved about $200 altogether.

        • That makes more sense. So if the additional $50 is split between 3 people, there's still a bit of a saving haha.

        • @bobbified:

Yeah, but I feel bad asking them to chuck more in! They are on holiday too so cannot ask them until next week dammit!

  • $50 shipping?
Wtf in a world of free shipping you choose to pay it….

    • Wtf in a world of free shipping you choose to pay it….

Not so bad - I pay it sometimes if I want something quickly. The final price including express (and expensive) shipping is often still significantly cheaper than getting it locally.

The "free shipping" is never really free - it's all built into the final price so the customer pays for it one way or another!

      • Yep, that's why I bought from here. Was cheaper and said 7-10 days delivery. This was back on the 2nd!
