Usage Charges Discount Vs Entire Bill Discount-Which Is Better??

Usage charges discount vs entire bill discount. Which is better to choose for a family of 4 in Qld. For eg. Red energy gives you a discount of 10% on the entire bill but Alinta gives you a 28% discount on the usage charges. I am currently with click and have a solar in place. Any thoughts or previous experiences is appreciated.
Many thanks

supply charge is $30 odd a month so 10% = $3 saving. 28% discount on usage is the better deal but depends on usage

    • Thanks :)

Your current bill should show the current usage.
From that, you can calculate the costs for each of the potential providers.

Each of the three providers will have different charges for supply and usage.

Can't calculate on those figures. You would need to compare the daily service charge, and the actual usage charges and then apply the respective discount to work out which offer is cheaper. Often when a larger discount is advertised, the usage and daily service charge is higher. https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au may help you to compare retailers.

Correct. its like asking how long is a piece of string.

If the Op has solar, then how much goes back to the grid , vs how much is consumed which then gives how much of the usage will be discounted.

If you pay very lttle for usage the 10% off total makes sense.

Also what is their solar input rate. in NSW companies can offer different input tariffs, so again those generating lots of power then the higher input tariffs could be better.

the OP has the figures so just needs to do the what ifs (Excel) to determine the impact/benefit of each supplier rates.

      • Thanks for the responses fellas. Will have a look into that. Appreciate it
