Dell Latitude Laptop - Outlet Advice

Hi i've been frantically searching online during my holidays for a laptop replacement. I have an Alienware 17 as my main laptop and unfortunately it's not really cutting it for uni (possibly due to its 4.2kg frame)

I'm after something light, powerful and good to use and I spend most of my day using it. I've looked at many types including consumer range such as the xps range, the asus vivobooks, hp spectre and business type like the thinkpad series, x1 carbon, latitude and precision (both from outlet).

My main priorities are hdd (want 512sdd), processing power (8th core) and 16gb (min) of ram. So far i've found the xps 13 offers this but you need to purchase a 4k screen and other option is a latitute 7490 from the outlet store.

I really like the look of the latitude and its a bargain at just under $1500 but just as I was about to buy it I noticed the screen. It's only a 14" HD (1366 x 768) resolution. Is it a deal breaker? I know people say you don't need a high resolution on a 14" laptop but I can't find any reviews of this laptop without a 1080p screen. Does anyone have a 1366 x 768 resolution laptop and can vouch for it?

  • Buy the dell latitude with a 1920x1080 screen then.

They're my favourite laptops. Durable, cheap (if you buy from the outlet) and made with quality parts. Used by banks, US government, FBI etc.
They're also easy to service. You can buy a 500 GB Samsung 960 Evo NVME m.2 drive for $250 and replace the HDD in it if you want.

    • I would but all the ones in the outlet are hd resolution only :(

      • The latitude 7490 came out last month. You won't see very many on the dell outlet. I would just pay for it outright and get 3 years warranty.

Don't pay the RRP of $4k, obviously. You might be able to get it brand new for $2200 or even cheaper through your business. Well worth the money.

        • Thanks i'll just keep refreshing and hopefully jump on it if it comes up

  • Yes dealbreaker - you definitely want the FHD 1920x1080 - think on the Latitudes it's also IPS, vs TN on the HD monitors
Even on a 14" screen 768 looks like terrible

  • you only notice it when put side by side
