Asus VivoBook F510UA Vs Acer Aspire E15

I need some help! Which one would be better for a university student who watches shows as well as lightly games.

Asus VivoBook F510UA FHD Laptop, Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, USB-C, NanoEdge Display, Fingerprint, Windows 10, Star Gray F510UA-AH51.

Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U, GeForce MX150, 8GB RAM Memory, 256GB SSD, E5-576G-5762.

Both have the same processor, RAM and screen specs. However the Acer has a SSD as well as very good battery life (10 hours plus) compared to the Asus which has a HDD (I would put in an SSD for an extra $100) and average battery life (approx 54 hours). Apparently the Asus has a keyboard flex issue whilst the Acer has good feedback for their keyboard. The price of both laptops would be around the same USD$599.

  • 54 hours is a little above average.

    • That'll be the day! lol

  • I have the Acer laptop (full plastic), it has 8gb DDR3 (can be replaced) and only 1 fan. Hence, the temperature will increase very fast if the MX150 is running and the battery life will decrease a lot faster. Hopefully, Acer didn't slower the speed of the MX150 2GB and didn't overclock the UHD620.
Like most laptops below $1000, Acer speakers lack bass.

By the way, 10hrs + can only be reached if the MX150 is turned off and the proc isn't continuously working at full speed.

Based on the reviews and comments, it seems like if you want to put another 2.5 SSD on the Acer, you will need to buy a mounting kit…

    The Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-515J (no dvd) at US$599 has 2x4gb DDR4 but 1 DDR4 is soldered…

  • Although it'll be ~$100 more expensive, but if you do light gaming, the Dell Inspiron 15 5575 with Ryzen Mobile might be more suitable https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/372298
