Reliable mechanic in Canberra for Lexus

Hello everyone

I was wondering does anyone know if there is a good automotive mechanic in Canberra?

I've been looking for a good mechanic since ages ago but always bump into dodgy or rude mechanics. I cannot afford dealer servicing costs and lack skills to self servicing.

  • North or southside?

    • Better if North side but equally open to South side too.

  • Make sure all fluids are done to or beyond specs, and that the exact correct fluids are used.

Beyond that, normal wear items are wipers, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, tyres, brake pads and rotors (together as one), spark plugs.

It is easier to DIY, than find a good mechanic.

Good mechanics are put out of business fast by all the bad mechanics. The industry likes this as it supports Dealers and speeds the destruction of stock in use (increases spending on new cars). Like other manufacturers, Toyota does not do anything to help address this, let alone assist aftermarket mechanics with its product. It jacks parts prices and keeps technical bulletins secret with the worst of them.

Luckily, in Canberra, there are quite a few good shops. Best to find one that is professional and will do what you specifically request, rather than a '6 monthly service' and bill you with that. Just make sure you request what needs to be done (else you leave it up to them to figure it out, which means charging you more). So long as you ask for the right things, there will be no problems getting the logbook stamped- so that means doing the scheduled fluids and getting wear items replaced before they near failure.

Nice thing is, each time it is done, and you have a bill, you can be sure those things were done, rather than a bill which will have included things that were missed or ignored.

    • Thanks for the tip - appreciate it

      • No problem. Lists are your friend, compile one for each service so they can tick them off and bill you accordingly.
