Smart Home/Xiaomi Products - Where Do I Start?

I have a new home.

I'm struggling to understand how all these smart devices interact. And i want to be able to start somewhere.

I've seen an abundance of posts on xiaomi xiaofang cameras, or human body sensors and smoke alarm sensors.

All i want is an affordable, DIY home surveillance/alarm system that can prompt me from my android phone remotely.

Interested in outdoor/indoor cameras, house alarms (if necessary), smoke alarm sensors and etc. etc. etc.

Where do i start?!?!

    You can start with xiaomify YouTube channel. I find the videos easy to follow and the explanations are very clear.

    Start with some yeelights and then door/windows sensors and motion sensors

    You're not interested in smart home automation then. You want video surveillance camera with an alarm function.

    Do all xiaomi products including smart camera sends data to their servers? Workaround via hass.io?
