Unfortunately they are only available on the PS3.
Personally loved Suikoden 1 and 2 so will be getting those at $4.55 each to relive the good old days.
Suikoden 3 and 4 also available for $5.95.

Get on these classics!

  • Suikoden III is apparently one of the best RPGs

    • +3

      2 is.

Most rank 2 as the best in the series followed by 5 or 1. 4 is the worst.

      • Gotta say V is one of my favourite PS2 games

        • which other ones have you played?

2 has one of the best and most intricate plots in a video game.

        • @lostn: No other Suikodens so far. Downloading 1, 2 and 3 now :)

So many great RPGs on the PS2

        • +1

          @justabargainhunter:

without spoiling anything, just make sure you play 1 then 2 =)
hopefully you love it as much as we have

        • @Grale: Thanks for the tip :)

        • @justabargainhunter: Ah never mind. 1+2 are PS1 games, not PS2.

It was when you said Suikoden V is one of your favorite PS2 games that I had to know if you'd played 2 or not. But yeah, 2 is not a PS2 game.

I thought the PS1 had even better JRPGs than PS2.

        • @lostn: Which ones?
FF7 was one of the best on PS1 for me. There was also Grandia 2 which was a nice game (and awesome graphics for the time).

        • +1

          @justabargainhunter:

FF7, FF9, FFT, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Suikoden 1+2, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story, Legend of Mana, Saga Frontier 2, Parasite Eve (possibly), Grandia, Alundra, Vallyrie Profile, Lunar, Tactics Ogre.

Mind you, a number of these didn't release in PAL territories. It was a time where Europe got shunned as being an irrelevant market. How things change.

The PS2 I feel was decent as far as JRPGs, but it was the beginning of a decline. The major player, Square merged with Enix and honestly, started to suck. That suckage continued into the PS3, and crescendoed with the PS4.

        • @lostn: Nice, I try to pick up ones where I can to fill in. Tactics Ogre got re-released on PSP, that was pretty fun.

Agree with you that many Square franchises have gone downhill…

        • @justabargainhunter: Add Front Mission 3 to that list! I've ever played the others in the series though.

Vagrant story was $3.59 a week or so ago, does anyone know what sort of cycle these old games would be put on sale/how to get sale alerts?

      • Agreed. I loved 2. Never really got into 3 but might have to give it another try if it's rated that highly.

    • +1

1 and 2 were amazing. Never gave 3 a chance to be honest. The shift to 3d just seemed like a downgrade…wish they'd continued with the style of the previous ones. But I never gave the newer games a try! Anyone who played 1 and 2 (both of which I loved….probably loved 2 more than 1) have a suggestion for which other Suikoden to play?

      • Oh yeah, my brother and I only had access to a japanese copy of suikoden 2 (which neither of us could understand) and still see suikoden 2 as the better game lol. I think that speaks pretty highly of the game…

      • Suikoden V is highly recommended. Just very fun to play.

  • Classic games, completed my collection with Suikoden IV thanks to this special.

  • I hope that they include suikoden v at some stage as well!

    • If it's not a PS2 Classic, they won't.

Unless they do a PS4 BC release, but that's not a straight forward process, and Konami doesn't look to be in the mood to make games or bother with anything, MGS zombie spinoff notwithstanding.

  • Suikoden III is the best rpg ever.

Played through 3 times and would happily do all over again.

  • Yes finally! I haven’t played suikoden 3!!! Finally! Thanks OP!

  • 1 and 2 work the ps vita as well.

  • Are these also compatible with PS4? I've put my ps3 away and don't really want to connect it all again to play one game.

    • As far as I can tell, it seems like its only available for the PS3 or the Vita.
These classics are worth the trouble imho!

      • Probably, but really how hard would it be to make all the PS1 classics available on PS4? Clearly they already have updated code so it's a bit slack. What do all the people do who sold their ps3 when the ps4 came out?

        • totally agree.
but it doesn't look like Konami would be busy listening to fans anytime soon.
Would love for the entire series to be put on the PS4.
For now, I guess we should be content to have 1 - 4 even if it's on the ps3.

        • I didn't sell my PS3.

But if I was to play a PS1 game, my preferred place to play it is on the PSP. You can also play it on Vita, but PSP's screen looks the best for PS1 games. You can run it unscaled.

Scaling will make it look like shit on any HD TV.

        • @Grale: Hope for a remaster like .hack :)
