Need Information - Who Has Recently Booked A Malindo Return Flight?

Question for anyone that has recently purchased a return flight direct from Malindo. Did Malindo give you 1 or 2 reference numbers?

Background if you want to read on

  • Bought a return flight (Perth > Kuala Lumpur > Langkawi > Kuala Lumpur > Perth) from Malindo through Expedia
  • Malindo/Expedia gave me 2 Malindo reference (1 for the outgoing flight, another for the incoming flight)
  • Malindo made a change to the outgoing flight which meant I would have to do a 12-hour transit in KL, instead of the original 2 hours
  • Malindo refunded cost of outgoing flight
  • Malindo refused refund on the incoming flight as it has minimal changes (less than 2 hours)
  • Called Malindo to argue that it was booked as a return flight, and should have been refunded the entire journey. Asked to speak to a "manager" who pretty much kept repeating NO as I tried to speak.
  • Malindo says to speak to Expedia. Expedia says to speak to Malindo.
  • I'm thinking if it's Expedia's booking system that gave me 2 Malindo references in error, Expedia should refund me instead.

  • one reference number for return flight.

  • I made a return Perth -> KL , KL-> Perth last August by Expedia.

only received one email from Malindo, one reference number that had both trips listed.

did you book it as Langkawi-> perth or Langkawi->KL-> Perth ?

    • Definitely booked it as a return (i.e. set Perth as origin, Langkawi as destination).

I received one itinerary reference from Expedia, which had 2 Malindo flight references.

      • Hmm, I'm not sure as I didnt have any stopovers , but can confirm that my return trip I only had one booking reference from Malindo + expedia. Possibility that Expedia split your trip up instead.

        • Yup I think it's either a fault in Expedia's system or a human error if an Expedia employee has to manually book the tickets.

Thanks for your input. I'll chase up Expedia for a refund and let you know how I go.

        • @cheapchip:

          are you cancelling the trip?

        • @PissLUR: Nah… already booked a return flight through Malaysia Airlines.

  • you can often buy a new KUL-Langkawi flight separately for $30.. maybe thats a better option than rebooking the whole trip.

Just ask Malindo to drop the existing KUL-Langkawi segment and maybe do a partial refund

    • Sorry my original post should have said "Malindo refunded cost of Perth > KL > Langkawi flight".

I already booked a return flight through Malaysia Airlines which somewhat matches the original Malindo schedule and roughly the same price, so I'm really just after a refund for the Langkawi > KL > Perth flight.
