London Accommodation

Hi all,

A new traveler to London next week and I have a couple of days to spare for myself.

I am looking for ideas on accommodation up to $150 a night in a good area, not far out of town, close to transport etc etc.

I am not a BnB guy nor do I like the idea of AirBnB either.

What I would like is a self contained 1 bedroom hotel in a good area safe to go for a walk without fear of being mugged etc. I am not a big public transport user here at home so it's all a little new to me but being close is probably a good thing.

I also want to go and see sites so this would also be a consideration.

Could some of OZBargain's more "well traveled" please point me in the right direction please?

Cheers,

Matt

  • May be too late for your upcoming trip but I've stayed at the venue below and found them to be great for the price:

    I used booking.com, everyone's needs are different.

Be warned it's pretty pricey. A lot of hostels have hotel style rooms as well, which can be good value.

The Premier Inn group are good value. Our expat friends prefer them. Here's one at Waterloo:

  • Ed Sheeran's stone wall to prevent rough sleeping is yet to be council approved!

Travelodge. Several central London locations. I've stayed with them all over uk and have never been disappointed. No wifi, no breakfast, it's budget. But it's great.

I always found Baywater to be a great place to stay in terms of location and $.
It has two tube stations - bayswater and queensway (2 mins walk from each other) on two different lines so very easy to get around.
You can easily walk to Hyde Park, and even Oxford street ~30 mins.

Last year I stayed in an apartment near Kings Cross Euston stations. Around a 20 minute walk to the main areas of London and definitely safe. It's close to a few Universities so the area is pretty chill and safe. Room is basic and small but does the job - Link below.

PS - As a side note, the tube is very easy to use in London, just tap your credit card and off you go. 28 degrees is your best mate here. Also around 95% of places in London take card as payment option.
