Best Way to Exchange AUD for Pounds Sterling

I am travelling to the UK next month and I will need some 'walking around' money while I am there.
I will be using my local CC for most travel and accom expenses, does anyone have any advice on the best return for changing Aussie dollars to pounds?
There are some posts I had read with advice but none of them seem to be very recent.
Anyone out there with up-to-date info, like changing currency at airports, ATMs at UK banks and supermarkets, etc?
And, before anyone goes off-topic, yes, I know about travel cards from the banks here (which usually give a lousy rate), 28degrees, etc.
Thanks in advance.

    Citibank Plus.

  • Or HSBC Everyday Global - you can move money into Pounds Sterling account directly from your AU$ account whenever you want.
Then you just withdraw from your pounds account when in the UK.

At a poor exchange rate. I wouldn't do that unless you were trying to get a good rate before the value of the AUD goes down.

If you do an ATM withdrawal out of the AUD account, it converts it very close to the market rate at Visa's FX rate with no fees. If you convert money before you withdraw, you get HSBC's non-competitive rate.

      • That's interesting.
I haven't done this yet so I don't know what the exchange rate is on the transfer between accounts.
