QC35s from eBay Myer Are Grey Imports???

Went in to a JB Hifi try out the Bose QC35s. Asked for a price match and casually mentioned the recent Myer/Ebay deal with the QC35s (this one: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/374885). The guy in the JB store suggested Myer only sells them on Ebay at that price was because they are grey imports. Is that true? And with headphones such as QC35, does it even matter?

Since I'm keen on getting a pair asap, and with that assertion (allegation?), I signed up to OzBargain so I could post and ask?

FWIW, the "deal" they offered was $14 discount, down to $485! :(

Welcome to OzB, just a few points.

    1. JB usually won't match ebay discounts, don't expect them to be but you might get lucky if you're persuasive
    2. Myer's ebay stuff are just the same stuff they sell on their own online store and instore AFAIK
    3. Bose's warranty is worldwide, you would lose protection under ACL tho (IF it is grey import, buying on myer ebay is same as buying thru myer online, hence ACL covered)
    • I've usually found JB are pretty good matching online stores with an ABN but yes, eBay matching was just a conversation starter really…

Shopping on Myer Ebay is the same as shopping through their online website. Orders are distributed to stores and local DC (for most bulky orders) to fulfil.

      • Not really in some case, shopping thru Ebay will get your money back into your account (Paypal/CC) for refund, while shopping thru their online shop will get your refund as their gift card credits. Ebay orders tend to be more quicker and accurate then their online store. Ordered 6 items came in 4 different postal bags and 4 collection cards, waited 3 days before 1st item no stock, another 4 days for another item, so their online shop sucks.

Perhaps not related to this thread, but I understand that many people try to price match as they may have discounted/normal gift cards they want to make use of. However, if you're not in that category and the store you're trying to get them to match is as reputable and reliable, then why not reward the original store for making that sale happen if you're going to end up paying the same amount?

It might be a matter of convenience if you can go straight to the store rather than wait for the shipping, but I would honestly recommend supporting the store who originally started the sale, given that you are indeed paying the same amount after considering any further discounts (E.g discounted gc's, vouchers/coupons etc).

    • Fair point, reward the price leaders. One way I use price matches at bricks and mortar places is to avoid shipping costs. Having said, I do certainly prefer getting my hands on the good asap, so yes, shipping times do impact my decision somewhat. Can't wait till shipping is properly disrupted in Oz, auspost is bearable but if Toll becomes involved, best to avoid that nightmare.

    • I agree. I only use price matching if there is a more compelling reason to do so, however, being able to get it from a B&M store, or buying something from a store I trust, does fall into these categories.

Myer gives you a tax invoice, the dude at JB Hi Fi might be bluffing to get you to buy them then and there.

I went to a Bose store in Melbourne and the guy offered me a 10$ discount for buying it that day.
