Warranty will be fine as long as you don't do something silly that damages the hardware. It's in their FAQs on their website:

The technical process of rooting or unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty of a OnePlus device. However, we strongly suggest for you to only root or unlock the bootloader of your OnePlus device if you are confident in your understanding of the risks involved.
By accessing resources regularly unavailable to the software, you may damage your hardware during or after the procedure. Such damage is not covered under warranty. In warranty handling, we will first need to verify that any faulty behavior is unrelated to rooting / unlocking.

    • Thankyou this is really helpful. I’ve heard that rooting can cause security issues with the device long-term, ever heard of this?

I heard Shopmonk are really sketchy.
And the fact that the device comes rooted means it is Not New. Someone has opened it and Used it.

If I were you, I would skip it for security purposes. Or if the price is right, and you're smart, make sure you flash a new kernel, erase the internal data, and flash a new ROM from xda. Otherwise, you might have spyware and someone in China may get the screenshots, file uploads, or keystrokes of your email and account number and passwords. It's happened before, and it happens to tens of thousands of people everyday.

I'd be confident in saying that they got the Chinese version cheaper and flashed the international ROM onto it. Only difference between Global and Chinese is the ROM iirc.

        • Thanks, that’s pretty worrying to be honest. I don’t have the energy to constantly be on top of ROM’s and kernels etc, bit too intense so this probably isn’t the phone/store for me. Cheers

        • @monkeynews: I'm on the same boat as you wanting the 5T. Holding out for the 6 just to see how low the 5T will go.

Also the Star Wars edition that Banggood put onto preorder looks amazing.

@Clear: Aside from Shopmonk, the 5t seems priced way too high across the board right now, doesn’t feel economical af all.

        • @monkeynews: Agreed. That's why I'm waiting so our friends in China can do some massive price drops (hopefully). Doesn't bother me too much as I like a more stock experience rather than what Samsung and others do.

        • @Clear: would you be comfortable with a Chinese model flashed with Oxygen, considering some of the advice higher in thos thread?

      • Yes with an unlocked bootloader or rooted device it will fail to pass Googles safteynet. Safetynet is googles way of ensuring a device is secure to their standards if it fails most apps like Netflix etc and especially Google Pay wont work. I have a unlocked and rooted device and it is getting increasingly difficult to pass Googles Safteynet without the likes of Magisk.

  • Edit: I stand corrected

  • Good luck actually getting it from Shopmonk, though.

  • Rooted Phones-

Don't buy them they are probably heavily damaged.

  • I recommend not to deal with shopmonk. Their product is faulty and customer service is appalling.
