there isn't really a "good" brand here in Australia because under the law ALL bike helmets need to go under safety regulations, you will see the sticker on the inside of the helmet(and on the packaging)
even these ones will most likely have similar safety with expensive one http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/32830
as mentioned in that bargain http://www.bhsi.org/testbycost.htm and experiment investigating cheap vs expensive helmets
usually stores like kmart, big w, rebel sport, amart all sports, bike shops and the like will have helmets but i am not sure when they are on sale

      Errr.
Good ones have good ventilation and still meet the Australian design requirements, bad one's have bugger-all ventilation and it looks like your head has been for a swim when you take off the helmet…
There's a MASSIVE difference between a Good and Bad helmet if comfort is a factor in your buying decision.

Torpedo7 had Helmets on sale..(seems you missed out on this round though) never fear, they have sales VERY regularly.
Limar brand is the one most commonly discounted, but they're very nice helmets with decent ventilation..

7 Eleven in Melbourne are selling bike helmets for $5, they meet Australian standards. Not sure if they are doing something similar in Adelaide.

  • Thanks for your responses. ATM I'm not sure other stores have any special or not. Usually I had a lots of junk mails (catalogue) in my letter box but for the last 2 weeks I didn't receive any. May be the person doing the run in our area having a long break?
There are a few on BigW online but I'm not sure which one value for money. What's the quality of Rosebank like?

  • I was told by a bike shop guy that in any helmet you get to look for one that has an adjustable section that fits at the bottom at the base of the head (not the bit under the chin, another bit) - sorry can't think of a better way to describe it. He said thats the bit that holds the helmet securely on the head and makes sure it fits the head shape properly, making it safer.

The bike shop was selling them for $50+ but I found ones with that same adjustable section for $15 at Target.

This is your head we're talking about man, are you sure you want to skim on that?

    • i know the old saying "$10 helmet = $10 head" but these days "Australian Standards" has strict standards on impacts etc. Unless you buy an OS helmet that meets a stricter standard, i wouldnt expect any differences between cheap/expensive helmets apart from comfort and "cool factor"

  • $15 for a store brand (kmart/big w) cheapie
$50 for a cheapie (but still good) bicycle store helmet
$150 for a 'wowser' bicycle store helmet and…
Well, let's just say I crapped my knicks when I saw some for $250+

I settled for a $50 Limar…which, ironically, is contracted out to a Chinese factory

  • Limar 520 vs Bell Venture which 1 to buy?
Thinking toward Bell Venture as it has more vents.
Any of you owned Bell Venture?
Can get Bell venture for around $50 and limar a bit cheaper.
The price of Bell venture in some of the shops below is a joke.

    $109.95 http://www.bikesbecause.com.au/Bike-Parts-Accessories/Bell-V…
    $139 http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes/show/100082498-bell-bel…
    $119.00 http://www.bikes.com.au/p/298066/bell-venture-sport-helmet.h…

    • Go for more vents every time! (assuming that more vents=more ventilation… more vents are useless if they're tiny)
