Good Price for HP Pavillion 14 Laptop or Not

So, I'm thinking about purchasing a HP Pavillion 14 overseas and was wondering if I should

It would be $750 AUD, previously $1100 here is all the info on the laptop:
i5 8250u
GeForce 940MX
6 GB Ram(1 more memory slot)
1tb hdd + 128GB ssd
FHD IPS Brightview 1920x1080
1.63kg

IMO pretty sleek and good design and build quality as well, good price for specs

    6 gb ram???
Never seen it in a laptop
There are so many 14 series I have no idea what you are talking about. If you have the sepcific name look it up on notebook check for more specs doing a judgement without any information is stupid. My predictions it has a weak battery and they are just clearing out the mx940 since it’s replaced by MX150. It will probably be a 1080 p low color 45%ntsc laptop which is half decent. No more specs no more judgements can be made. What ssd do they use? How it performs under pressure? what do you use it for? Are there any usb c slots, gen 1,2,thunderbolt? What cpu cap did they put on the 8250u? Knowing none of these is not going to help

  • I think the Lenovo(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/376378) is always better option to HP.
I use HP for work(given by the company), not all that impressed.

This DELL one(http://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/new-inspiron-15-…) is not bad for 15'6" screen.

    • No ssd

      • You can customise the Lenovo for SSD, but you less storage.

        • Dell one without ssd I mean, and it’s not a good price…

  • How old is the laptop, I had a HP Pavillion ages ago and it used to heat up like crazy, hottest laptop I've ever dealt with. It was the type with an aluminium looking enclosure. Hopefully they've fixed it by now.

    • Same, my previous one was a Pavillion dv6, plastic enclosure, the palm/wrist area next to the keyboard got so hot it was actually uncomfortable placing your hands there. Tempt check showed a consistent 99-100 degree Celcius about 5 mins after boot up with no load and no bloatwarez, fan stayed on pretty much all the time.
I chalked it up to design issue, as replacing thermal paste didn’t improve anything.

  • I have had a HP Pavillion series as well and currently using a very high-end business series from HP's line of Elitebook Folio 940m ultrabooks from Haswell generation.

My impression of them is not that great; I've had to spend quite a bit of dosh self repairing my Elitebook on so many parts (touchpad and palmrest assembly, LCD panel, Keyboard and battery)

Would still recommend Lenovo. If you're on a budget, the Lenovo E480 and E580 are pretty good options and they have better GPU specifications than the HP. Take note the discrete GPU is a optional add-on and so is the i7 CPU and backlit KB.
