Kids Tablet

G'day All,

I am looking for a tablet for my 2yo to watch TV shows/movies/etc on a long plane flight…. looking to spend up to $200, needs to be a "kid friendly" edition with a kids case and locked down OS. The Kindle Fire Kids edition looks perfect but I can't find a way of buying one in Australia. Has anyone got any tips/ideas/etc?

Thanks for your help

  • Samsung Tabs have a Kids Mode pre installed. Though it's really just a launcher modification and there are apps on the market that do roughly the same thing.

The Samsung Tab A series is the low end line and is what I currently use for work.

Lenovo also makes some low end tabs. See my previous deal post at Officeworks to get some idea of pricing.

Having recently traveled overseas with a 2 year old here are some notes that might help:
    * Try and book an overnight flight, my daughter was asleep the entire way.
    * On the flight home we had no choice but catch a morning flight. I downloaded as many Netflix shows as I could but she got bored of her iPad pretty quickly.
    * I had a few kinder surprises on hand to quell any rising tantrums.
    * The Pockit pram was really helpful. It folds up and fits into the overhead luggage and was useful when navigating the airports.
    * The airline will probably seat you towards the back of the plane for easier access to the toilets.
    * Don't forget, you can generally board the plane before the main group because you have a child.

  • We got a samsung tab A 10". I think at the time it was about 240. It is a cheap model but because the base resolution is lower, the battery lasts ages. Perfect for kids videos. Also my wife got something called a plane pal for the last trip home. She said it was great.
