Honda Civic 2018 Models - Thoughts?

Hi Ozbargain Community,

I recently test drove a Mazda 3 SP25 Astina, VW Golf Highline and a Honda Civic VTi-LX.

I am looking for a mid range brand but with a little more luxury.

So far my choice would be the Honda Civic; the 7 year warranty is hard to deny, the interior looks beautiful, driving it was pleasurable and I felt it has a little more power than both the Golf and Mazda 3.

Are there any Civic owners that might be able to provide some feedback regarding their experiences? Are you happy with your purchase?

On a side note, I am also intrigued by the new Toyota Corolla 2019 models which are released in Australia in 2019!

Thanking you all in advance :)

Just get the one you like. You don't need a group of strangers to validate your opinion.

Not a civic owner but as a Brisbane buyer also in the market I'd love to know what price offers you got?

    • Still yet to discuss prices but I will hopefully doing so in the next week or two.

    • Thanks for sharing this :)

  • I picked up my VTI-LX sedan last week.So far I have no problem with car performance. Apart from some annoying things.
There's few leather scratching on the steering wheel it's not noticeable but it's annoying me. (Not only me , a few other new owners has it as well ). I just contacted my dealer so don't know how they going to fix ( i am going to ask for some accessories if they can't fix).
My driver side passenger seats have a bit wider gap between boot.

Car performance wise it's really good. Run very nice, but I can hear some buzzing sound after acceleration. Not sure if it's only me. I was picking between Mazda 3/ Impreza and Civic but I like the civic design and interior. That's the reason why I went with Honda.

    • Excellent, thanks for the feedback.

I agree, the interior is much more refined in the Honda.

I have also read other reports about the buzzing sound but didn’t notice anything whilst test driving.

Would it be possible for you share the price you paid for the VTI-LX? :)

      • i m from VIC so not sure if that will help u. 34k with slimline plate, protective pack, ILLUMINATED DOOR SILL and MUD GUARD SET (MY2018). You have to drive very slow to hear the buzzing sound. it's not noticeable but can hear it when it's very quite.
They are doing the 7 years warranty. So probably better value than Mazda3

    • The buzzing sound is super annoying issue coming from the vibration of the dash.

In that class, I'd give the Hyundai i30 SR a long, hard look.

Except no one in their right mind would pass up a VW Golf or Honda Civic for a Hyundai.

The i30 punches in that class. Warranty is better than two of the cars listed by the OP, and power/torque top all three.

I own a Golf, but badge snobbery has no place on Ozbargain. The i30 has won multiple best small card awards, its N spec is now the hot hatch to beat, and the Kia Stinger is filling the sports sedan void left by the Commodore.

I have owned a Honda and a Hyundai before, and I can tell you, I would never buy another Honda. The ride was harsh, the seats were terrible, the dash had about 4000 knobs, dials and buttons on it. Fit and finish on the Honda was terrible compared to the price we paid. It was on par with the Hyundai but almost 3 times the price.

As for VW, good lord no. With the recent revelations about how VW operate their business and the brand damage and VW’s moral and ethical compass and their treatment of customers post sale is bordering on being criminal, I think I’ll steeer clear of Mexican made cars for a while as well.

And I would have no problem buying the N version of the i30 over a GTi or a Type R any day.

… a long, hard look called a side-eye as you back away slowly….

The Honda is a lovely car and they have great reliability.

Current gen Civic is as ugly as a hat full of arseholes (no offence, TA).

Spice up your life, OP. Buy an i30N.

I am also intrigued by the new Toyota Corolla 2019 models which are released in Australia in 2019

Will be released August this year.

    • But i30n is much more expensive. I'd get one in a heartbeat if I can afford though.

    • Agreed, looking at the current civic gives me a headache!
