I Want to Not Join The Job I Have Already Signed The Acceptance Letter for

Hi Guys,

I have signed a contract with a major bank in an IT role that I don't want to join anymore. My joining date is a week away and I am trying to frame an email to them without getting blacklisted.

Any thoughts?

You will never work for that Bank for as long bad record keeping exists.

Just be straight with them and say you don't wish to honour the employment contract you have signed because you have found another position more suited to your career goals (as an example).

As a courtesy, one does this as soon as possible to allow the Bank to quickly go with their next preferred candidate.

    • This seems sensible to me. I really didn't have much to offer, but I was thinking something around the why makes sense to me, as in 'I can't take x job because I've been offered a job.' Something that any reasonable person could understand and appreciate. Also doing it ASAP is a great idea, better sooner rather than later.

email and follow up phone call to HR

"I wish to retract my acceptance of the position offered. Due to a change in circumstances I am no longer in a position to commence employment with you next week. I thank you for the offer, and apologise for any inconvenience"

    simple, done…
you wont likely ever get a job with them again, but you can at least correspond with them professionally to reduce any intra-HR chit chat.

I would call them first out of courtesy and let them know a formal decline email is on its way. Personally, I would be upset if a potential employee just emailed me.
