Smart Thermostat for High Voltage - Smart Home

Hi Guys,

I am into home automation and have automated everything around the house that I could think of except I have run into an issue when it comes to thermostat.

I want to replace my thermostat with smart thermostat for example NEST

Problem is my existing thermostat has high voltage but all smart thermostats I looked up require low voltage for them to be compatible, I understand I can purchase Aube RC840T-240 to convert 240V down to 24V and it will work however it will only do heating as far as I can understand, I need it do cooling as well when required.

My thermostat doesn't have a remote and I don't want to use those IR Remotes.

Anyone out there have any idea how to get around this?

My existing thermostat is

  • low voltage to high voltage relay?

    • Please elaborate

    • low voltage to high voltage relay?

That's the RC840T-240 the OP was talking about.

      • Second thought, I don't think OP after a relay, they not that hard to find. just google it. "24v to 240v relay"

        • He isn't, as it'll only do heating as he says.

  • +1

I believe you will have more problems than just voltage. Practically all HVAC's here use propriety protocols to control the air con and are not compatible with devices like the NEST. Basically, smart thermostats only control dumb HVAC's.
