For the same trip, 28,000 Krisflyer miles or 35000 velocity points, which one would you pay?

From award booking Sydney to Singapore, Krisflyer has 28,000 points per one way and Velocity has 35000 per one way. Would you book with Kirsflyer or Velocity?

The conversation rate is 1.35:1, so 35000 velocity points translate to 26,000 Krisflyer points.

Thanks!

P. S.
The 15% discount for redemption and redemption upgrade bookings made through singaporeair.com and the SingaporeAir app will be discontinued some time ago.

  • I would personally use the velocity points first. They are easier to earn than krisflyer. Also consider the differences in taxes.

  • Kinda depends on what points you have - VA or SQ?

    Also, taxes as cheapcheap4eva said.

  • +2

    Yes

  • which one is easier for you to earn and which one has lower taxes (providing availability is the same)

sometimes VFF cannot see KF availability so in these cases better to transfer to KF and book that way

    • On the availability, it's worth calling VA because the website only shows a subset of what's available.

If you have both Krisflyer and Velocity, I'd keep the Krisflyer for when you want to go to SEA via SG as the additional connection is free for Krisflyer redemptions, but not Velocity.

If you are booking a return economy to SG alone, I'd save the points and pay with cash.

  • Taxes are now similar since they abolished the 15% online discount.

If you can see availability through Velocity, I would go with them as it's marginally cheaper than transferring to KrisFlyer.

If no availability through Velocity, then safest to transfer to KrisFlyer.

If you book through Velocity, make sure you get the Singapore Airlines PNR (should be somewhere on your Virgin Australia itinerary), so you can manage your booking through Singapore Airlines.

  • Krisflyer points expire don't they? If they're expiring before you might get a chance to use them, I would use those first. I believe you just extend Velocity points by getting more - but you can't do the same with Krisflyer unless you pay a fee? Am happy to be corrected!

    • True, KF points last 3yrs
