Another Cupcake Deal Implosion Imminent - JumpOnIt

Just surfing Allthedeals and found this bargain for Sydney http://www.jumponit.com/sydney/
873 buyers who are entitled to 24 cupcakes and can only redeem them in 6 months. More people are bound to buy as well seeing as how there's still 60 hours left in the promo.

This can only end in tears.

  • Even worse
    No limit per person
    but
    Bookings essential
    .
now over 950 have "jumped on it"

  • yep i thought the same thing when i seen it!!!

  • You think they would have learnt by now to put a max limit on the deal .. but i guess that's a max on how much money they make too! I wonder if Living Social will be running it as well?

I think we should coin the phrase "cupcake fail" for a group buy that implodes. You saw it here first. :)

  • It actually says:

•Two dozen cupcakes baked fresh each day

    •No limit per person

    •Valid for six months

Does that mean that you can get 24 every day for 6 months?

1,291 people now - that is a HEAP of foot traffic in the door for 6 months)

Is that the fail, the fact that there is no way that they can service all those buyers?

    • I suppose it means you can buy as many vouchers as you want, but only use one per day. I suppose it depends on what a booking means and whether they have the capacity to fulfill bookings. So many unknowns.

    • Valid for 6 months, I would assume that the voucher they send you will be valid for a one time use within the next 6 months.

And yes the fail here is that they won't be able to give everyone their cupcakes, too many people buying.

  • How can 24 mini cupcakes be worth $50? That is more than $2 per mini cupcake. Even at $19 (minus the jumponit cut), I reckon they will make a huge profit.

    • unfortunately, mini cupcakes do go for $2 each. The large cupcakes are $4.50. This is a shop near my work in the Melbourne CBD.

      • hmmm I think I am in the wrong business :)

just doing some rudimentary maths….bit of rounding up and down, etc
at current number of customers….working 24/7, 7 days/week, they need to be churning out around 180 cupcakes per day just for coupon customers. That's assuming an operation that runs continuously day and night, weekends and public holidays.
The 'per day' quota will obviously increase if they are not a 24 hour operation. Will also increase as more customers book the deal - set to run for another 53 hours at the moment.

    doesn't look good….

    • The 'per day' quota will remain the same it's the 'per hour' quota that will go up. The only time their 'per day' quota will go up will be if more people buy. Just some rudimentary maths for ya ;P

      • never my strong point…. :)

        however….
if there are 10 days to make 100 cup cakes…that is 10 per day
if one day is a public holiday and the oven is not running, that means 9 days to make 100 cup cakes that is just over 11 per day.

        or not?

        • That's removing a day. (OK the other way their 'per day' quota will go up)

        • -1

That's what I meant…the six months will include Easter, and they will lose other days if they are not a 7 day operation.
Perhaps I could have put it better….

Anyhow, they look in deep crap whichever way you slice it…. :)

    • It's probably easier to work it out this way…

      Currently 1380 people at 24 cupcakes = 33,120

      6 months = (365 less 10 holidays /2) = 178 days

So, they'd need to do 186 per day.

It's actually less than 8 people per day, which is not really all that many for a retail shop.

      • yep….I went for 180 days…..8 people per day still assumes a 7 day operation, (which it may be I guess).
A six day operation will lop some 20 ish days off that total.
I assume that with the 'bookings essential' note on the coupon that they have allocated so many per day to be available. That will have to be at least 8 per day at current rate….not including any orders from their 'normal' customers, and making their regular other products. Even if they are able to fill that quota, I suspect there may be a waiting list.

        • Now there's 9 hours remaining and 1763 people have bought in. That's 235 cupcakes per day that they have to make

        • 240 per day is only 10 trays of 24… not really that many at all for a bakery. Those cakes are tiny, like 25-30mm diameter, correct?

  • +2

    should be fine
i make mini cupcakes at home
i can make 4 trays of 24 in 2-3 hours (includes icing)

    they are like pro's too
    with proper machinery
and they are set up in a warehouse (not like the other bunch in the city)

  • be interesting to see what happens in the first week when everybody wants their orders…..

  • u need to book
    they should be fine

  • LivingSocial are now running the [same deal](http://livingsocial.com/deals/21046-62-off-cupcakes "LicingSocial Cupcake deal") … more rudimentary maths needed!

    • Hehe I was just gonna post here saying that you were right in livingsocial doing the same deal.
