Looking For A Smartwatch To Go With My Samsung S7 Edge Phone

I've just started looking at getting myself a smartwatch mainly to monitor my fitness and for sleep tracking. As I've got the S7 Edge I would ideally like something that works well with this device. At the moment I occasionally use the S Health app on the phone and I assume any of the Samsung smartwatches would sync nicely with this. I'm not completely married to the idea of S Health and if there was another app that worked well I would happily use it. Another app I have been using to monitor my sleep was Sleep As Android but again if there was an alternative that worked well I would switch. I cycle to work each day so am interested in monitoring this as well as having a smart alarm feature for waking me up at an optimal time in the morning.

Thus far I had been looking at Samsung's Gear Fit 2 and some Xiaomi watches (Amazfit BIP and stratos). Anyone got any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance!

I have one. Works well with Samsung phones

I've got basically all the Samsung smart watches (Gear S2, Gear Fit 2, Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear S3) as a perk from my job, and my daily driver is the S3. It's more expensive than the other options but is the most fully featured version. They'll all automatically track your sleep and appear to do a fairly accurate job of it. I haven't tried them with Sleep as Android (I have used the app before and although it has lots of extra data compared to Samsung Health, I found that I wouldn't reliably tell it that I had fallen asleep, so I ended up not recording more often than not).

I also cycle and one caveat with the Samsung watches is that they don't directly interface with Strava. It's not hard to set up a link, but it has to be done by linking the S Health app to Strava. Not a huge deal but a little annoying.

If you're a female (or have thin wrists) the S3 might be a bit too chunky as well. Luckily I have giant wrists so it's not an issue for me.

    • Thanks for your reply. How do you find wearing the S3 to bed? I don't generally wear watches and that one seems a little bulky so I'm just curious if you find it uncomfortable at all?
