Solved: S8 Optus plan: does WiFi calling work on other isp?

Hi guys

I live in a marginal cellular area and thus require WiFi calling regularly. I signed up for the Telstra friend and family with s8 for 59 dollars and the WiFi calling is great over Bigpond cable.

The only competitive plan for my wife currently who needs a new handset is via Optus on their 49 plan with s8.however, Optus in our area is even worse than Telstra and so WiFi calling is essential.

Question: does WiFi calling on the Optus plan route fine via Bigpond WiFi, or are these features specific for your ISP.?

Thanks for your guidance!

  • Yes WiFi calling works with any WiFi on any carrier. your wife will be fine on optus, using telstra bigpond wifi.

I am with Telstra and home wifi is TPG, Room Mate is with OPTUS and works fine on TPG

  • If your wife's phone is an Optus branded S8 then it will work with Optus VoWIFI. I'm can't vouch for Optus branded S8 working on Telstra plan or vice versa.

I have an unbranded (XSA) Samsung S8+ which works fine with Optus VoWIFI.

In general, it makes no difference how you're getting your wifi, ie home, public, which ISP. Only matters if your phone's firmware is compatible with the VoWIFI of your carrier (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone).

  • Awesome news Thanks guys. Really appreciate the response
