Does Comprehensive Car Insurance Cover Rusted Windscreen

Some comprehensive insurance car insurance covers windscreen replacement, but would it cover one that is leaking and rusting around the edges? Has anyone had any experience with this?

No it wouldn't. This is a maintenance issue, ot hasn't been caused by an accident.

  • no that would be wear and tear

If you have a free yearly windscreen claim, you know what needs to be done.

    • Claim a new windscreen, ask the guy to let me repair the rust then come back to replace it once I'm done?

  • Time for a new Suby.

windscreens are part of the structural strength of a car unless it is very old. If the surrounds of the screen are rusted then the strength of your car may be greatly compromised. You should get advice probably from a panel beater.

    • It's a 93 model so not sure if that's the case.

      • All glued in screens form part of the structural integrity.

    1. This is not an accident/damage issue - no insurance.
    2. If in any doubt on insurance issues, contact your insurer in the 1st instance. Only you know all your details and exceptions/rules and terms of your insurance and only they can confirm re your particular issues.
    3. Any further doubt, repeat 2.
    4. Just to reassure you, your model has a glued in screen, and therefore the integrity and structural strength of the body shell has been compromised by any rust the vehicle has. Any rust damage is also a concern for the glass installer if/when it requires it, and they will NOT refit any structural type glass into a vehicle with defective metal work/frames as part of AS.
      A dodgy one might though.
    • Thanks for the info. I'll end up having the windscreen replaced as I'm allowed one a year with insurance and there's a big chip down the bottom corner. I'm going to have the glass taken out, then repair the rust and get the new windshield installed again.

      • Let the panel shop take care of the whole thing

They deal with the insurers and windscreen guys all the time
