I Feel Like I Have Been Cheated by Samsung Service

Wanted to ask for advice in my situation.

I got Gear Fit2 as a bundle when buying Samsung Galaxy 7 in Optus on June 2016.

Gear Fit2 might have a charging problem. The light just flickered but not charged while connecting to a charger cradle and LCD screen did not display so I visited Samsung in Joondalup shopping centre on 13 December 2017.

I got my watch back but it still had a charging issue. I visited Samsung again to repair on 15 January 2018.

I got received a call from Samsung and they said they could not fix it. So I asked a replacement device if it is not repairable. However, Samsung said they can do only refund but not replace, and asked me to provide a purchase of proof for refund.

I went to Samsung in Joondalup again on 12 May 2018 with a purchase of proof which I got from Optus. I just wanted to get some compensation before warranty expiration because the watch had two years warranty and it will be expired next month.

Today, I received a call from Samsung again and they said Gear Fit2 had a water damage. They said it has water resistant but not water proof. And water damage is consumer's fault so finally refund is also not available.

So, the question are

  1. Is it really possible Samsung technician could not notice water damage during two times repair? (For your information, I kept my watch inside the original box from January until I went Samsung Service again on last Saturday. That means Gear Fit2 has even no chance of touching water.)

  2. What is the best option to solve this issue in my situation? or Do I just have to forget it?

I will be very thankful for your any comment.

On the back of the watch, look at the two gold circles (charging points). It seems that they are affected by sweat and you start to lose the ability to charge it properly.

That would be a warranty issue.

Similar case with mine, so I would check that before believing the water damage speil.

Samsung still keep my watch at the moment so I can't check it now.

  • Did you bring the watch into a swimming pool or for a swim in the ocean?

    • Nope. I dont swim. Washing hands might be only chance my watch touching water.
      Thank you.

Repairers can identify if there is water present by opening up the device and checking the water strip. If it is blue or purple then water has been present inside.

That is I wonder why Samsung technician could not find it during two times repair.
This time is already third time i sent my watch.

  • I would raise the point that the device has not been near water since the repairs were attempted so you wonder just what attempts were made to repair the watch; that seems to be a better way of getting them to talk to you.

    • You exactly pointed out what I cannot understand.
I have not used my watch since I sent to Samsung from last December because it was not turned on.

Even after second time repair Samsung did not mention about water damage at all and just said they could not fix the issue.

As I mentioned, I just wanted it to be repaired or replaced but refund was the only option they offered.

Besides, Samsung asked me to provide the purchase of proof which the price is on. I got that watch as a bundle when buying Samsung Galaxy s7 from Optus.

I visited Optus and asked them phone contract receipt but actually there was not price for my watch. Of course, my watch was mentioned on that receipt.

And now they said it has water damage they did not see it during two times repair so it cannot be refunded as well.

I will try to talk with them.
      Thank you for your comment.

  • Given being waterproof is feature it should be a warranty job anyway if they are saying it failed
