Home Theatre Projector Recommendation $2k Budget

Hi There,

Just interested in peoples views on what type of home theatre projector I should buy

Setup
- Yamaha 7.1 receiver sending HDMI signal to projector
- Used for watching movies and Netflix
- Previously has an Epson TW3600 however this blew up and cannot be economically repaired
- Ceiling mount
- Room length 5.5m
- Screen is 130 inches
- Dedicated room so minimal light
- On board speakers…Useless to me.

Just wondering
1. What projector I should buy with a $2K budget (I acknowledge this is not high end but its not the rubbish end either)
2. Where is the best place to buy (taking into consideration EFY discounts/sales coming up) - I live at Camden NSW and Work at Castle Hill. Happy to travel to get something for the right quality and budget.

Thanks

Simon

    https://smile.amazon.com/Optoma-HD142X-Lumens-Theater-Projec…

Optoma HD143X - A$580 delivered. Great value for money Full HD projector.

    • Why the (profanity) was I voted down?

  • I just installed two benq w3000s into some townhouses, right on your budget at $2000. Great performance so far, worth looking at reviews and experience for yourself if you can find a demo room nearby you.

These guys fitted out my entire HIFI setup and shipped to Melbourne.

Since you work in castle hill go and see them. They were professional, helpful for after sales support and all around excellent.

  • I have the Optoma HD142x and am very happy with it.

  • I'd buy an Acer Z650 because it's the best Nvidia 3D certified projector you can buy but there's probably cheaper or better options if you aren't into games.

Even if you are into games there's a pretty small fraction of the PC library that is almost flawless in Nvidia 3D and even the much larger fraction of games that I would call playable with issues is only a fraction of everything still.

  • If a second hand low hours unit interests you send me a PM. I have 3 or 4 I no longer use. I am near Castle Hill.

  • The Benq W1700 looks really good. Interested in seeing it working and hearing the noise made by the fan as there are a few comments around the noise created.

Going to gauge the market over the next few weeks to understand if there are any EOFY sales.

Thanks all, really appreciate the feedback

  • Anyone had any experience with the Viwesonic Pro7827HD?? How would this compare?

  • Also the Viewsonic PX727HD. I can get this one for $2200. Its a 4K projector

    Thoughts?

    • If you have a reputable Australian seller, could be the way to go.

  • I think it is Called ViewSonic PX727-4K.

  • Bump
