Spiegelau Crystal Glasses 4pk (Champagne, Red or White Wine Glasses) ($14.99) ALDI Special Buys 23/05

470

I have been in the market for glassware, specifically beer glasses, and knowing that Spiegelau make a very nice beer glass I was excited to see ALDI had some Spiegelau glasses going for what seems to be very cheap - historically I do not recall seeing Spiegelau sets this cheap. Alas, no beer glasses for me, but some very decent wine glasses.

    shame no beer glasses

These are nice wine glasses, but I suspect they are Spiegelau 'seconds'. Bought 2-3 boxes last year and some were slightly odd-shaped, mostly down on the foot of the glass. So if perfect symmetry matters to you, inspect your glasses before buying.

Yeah good point! Probably a good policy in general, as the processes used to make most glasses do not generally produce perfect glasses.

  • Use free Coke Glass instead.

    • Why the neg?

      • Maybe jack has OCD and coke glass is FOR coke not beer

    • Crystal glass doesn’t actually have a crystalline structure (e.g. a quartz rock), but the name stuck because it sounds a lot less menacing than lead glass (which is what crystal glass actually is). So for the sake of convenience, we’re going to keep calling it that… you can too.

My question for winefolly.com: what is lead-free ‘lead glass’ made from? Glass?

      • Other minerals that aren't lead. Wait, how is that different to glass? Is it just high quality glass that can be made thin?

Bought these last year - Great glasses to give to guests who come over so they still feel fancy without breaking your Riedel's

These are owned by Riedel anyway so have a great feel to them and a nice thin lip without busting them everytime you wash them.

  • Does anyone know whether it's safe to wash them in a dishwasher?

description on both ozbargain and the product link says what you need to know

    • They are dishwasher safe, but I would still hand wash - Dishwashers tend to make them cloudy.

But that makes them more mysterious…

As long as you don't turn it on you'll be ok. I've seen people get really bad burns. I guess I'm more shocked they can fit inside them.

    Great wineglass.
Had two set before. Not expensive, but looks pretty good and won't be sad if you crack a few

  • Any idea what the volume of the glasses are?

Very good price, even if they are slight seconds…

Hahaha the reviews are all 4-5 star except

    • 2 stars: "Too much non recyclable packaging."
    • 1 star: someone having issues with delivery
    • Admittedly I do prefer less non-recyclable packaging. Although I doubt it's something I'd make major purchase decisions based on, if I can avoid it in day to day things like sauce packets or soy sauce squeezie tubes (shaped like the fish lol), random little stuff like that I will make the effort and avoid.

Regarding the spirit of your actual comment, I'd say it probably reflects well (ha) on the glasses if those are the only poor reviews.

  • I quite like the shape and size of my regular Aldi wine glasses. Are these any better?

  • Picked up a box of red wine glasses at north Sydney..decent quality at the right price ..they are quite large at 580ml meaning I can do a single large pour and lights out. Thanks OP
