Unfortunately don't want to step in to apple echo system and for budget around $600, I cant seem to find any better tablet for android.
Huawei Mediapad M3 or Asus Zenpad 3S.
I own the Huawei and can highly vouch for it.
Bought from Amazon US.
Get it when it goes on sale.

I found a Huawei Mediapad M3 8.4" 32gb WiFi model on gumtree for $280 AUD once. So if I were you I'd go the second hand model way.
I have the non 4g version ~ would be paying this silly price for an outdated tablet
Get the new IPAD's better spec and display 4g version may cost a little extra over the wifi versions
