Looking for a General Purpose Torch

Hey guys,

Just looking for a general purpose torch to keep in the car/house. Something I could take camping/to the bush and to use around the backyard. Nothing hardcore, but better than a phone light haha. Any suggestions or current/previous bargains?

Cheers!

  • Nitecore LA30 if you carry a powerbank.

    LR30 if you carry 18650s.

LA10 if you don't need nor carry extra batteries.

Narrow angle beams are not as useful as a wide angle/lantern for general purpose, under cars, and in the garden.

Not a deal but i use one of these for general purpose. Recharges, battery lasts several hours. Base is magnetic. Great for working on it under the car. Works well as an area light for camping. Good quality. Will sit on a table, tilted to light fiddly jobs. Good value at $35.

I have a couple of these. Less than ten bucks and lifetime guarantee.

Regular dolphins are pretty good too. Batteries should last ages since they're LEDs now.

  • What batteries would you prefer to use?

I have two Maglites. Both are the same “full size” model. One is a 3x D cell, the other a 2x D cell. One is an LED model, the other is a converted halogen to LED. Both are brilliant. Work well as a torch or a batton should you need it in the back yard at the wee hours of the morning to fend off some undesirable types. Really well made and withstand a punishment. Fit nicely in the door pocket of most cars as well…

I wrote a wiki page on buying a torch: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/torches

It will come down to how much do you care about the quality of light it puts out. A cheap Lithium ion torch is $15, a cheap charger is $20, and a couple of batteries would be another $15. Or you could go for a torch with a built in USB port for easier charging.

  • Armytek C2 has built in micro USB recharging! Great size and really nice light.

Avoid ledlenser, they are overpriced for what you get.
